We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was a songwriter in LA and my husband was a guitar builder, luthier, in Los Angeles as well before we met. We combined our passions, moving to Nashville, and now own Delgado Guitars and the Music Makers Stage venue space. Music is very important to both of us, and it is a core value that we share in raising our family and becoming part of the community where we live. I believe music is one of the things that makes life beautiful, and worth living. Music can help us celebrate life and also heal from the damages that occur along the way.

What should our readers know about your business?
We’re very proud to be part of the artistic community in East Nashville. We are a multi- generational family owned business. While small venues are being bought and placed into tourist driven hotels etc., we provide a songwriter haven, a listening room on the east side of Nashville featuring an acoustic, singer- songwriter, storyteller live series called “Live at Music Makers Stage”. We have partnered with many different agency groups in the city on event planning as well, Women in Music, Americana Music Association, TN Folk Arts, to name a few.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Nashville, these days, you can’t go wrong. There’s so many new, interesting, exciting places to eat, and spend time. First, I would recommend a panoramic tour of the city to see all the sites, Country Music Hall of Fame, Centennial, Park, and the Parthenon, the different boroughs surrounding Nashville, 12th South,, downtown, East Nashville,, and WeHo. I would recommend restaurants in East Nashville and Germantown for a local flavor along with some amazing craft cocktail bars to try. For intellectuals and history buffs, I would recommend a visit to some of our museums, Tennessee State Museum (which is free), with a side trip to the farmers market, our art museum, The Frist, Adventure Science center, and the newly opened, National Museum of African-American Music downtown. Our city also boasts several national sport teams, the Predators hockey, Titans, football, and Nashville Soccer Club. Catch a game while you’re in town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would recognize my husband, Manuel Delgado, for building the business to where it is today & having the vision to also have a music space, opening it up to the community, and becoming an active member. My daughters also help in the production of the shows that we put on at the Music Makers Stage. They work at the guitar shop in their spare time, earning money. I would also want to thank Jaime Scorby, of the Bluebird Cafe, for acting as a mentor to me when I started booking shows at the Music Makers Stage a few years ago. She offered invaluable advice.
