We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Kemp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote comes from the Holy Bible, and I constantly remind myself of it to keep my faith strong in times when I am weak. “God promises to provide what we need (Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:31-32)”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It took a while to get to where I am now, but if it were not for that path; I would not be as strong as I am today. After having my daughter at 21, I grew up fast and learned a lot of lessons. If it were not for my daughter, I would not be here. Ladies and Gentlemen, if you witness someone with postpartum; do not ignore it. Help them! That was a tough battle to fight, but I learned that even in the darkest hour, God had me the whole time. I worked jobs and resigned from jobs. I am not ashamed to admit that I had to step away from corporate to find myself. I learned that making a lot of money did not make me happy. I was in search of peace, and peace cannot be purchased. My journey was not an easy one, but the peace that I have now has opened up my creative doors so that I can create freely.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my city, we are in a college town so it is a lot of bars. We would not hit the bars, we would go where the locals go. I would take my friend to the best photographer, Tanesha Childs (ZombieFame). After we take pictures, I would take her by the University Mall to try out Sweet Dreamz Delivered-Tuscaloosa to pick up some of the best snacks. Once we finish our snacks, I would take her to The Room Studio to create some really dope content. That place is dope! Lastly, I would introduce her to the music scene. We are a melting pot in town, and so I would play Southern Soul singer Jo Nathan for her. We would have a great time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to first thank God, because without Him; I would not be here. Shoutout to my beautiful daughter, Kylie. My mother, father, pops, sisters (Porsche &Sheridan), Casey, Shambria, my favorite cousin Elyse, Sweet Baby, and my ancestors. Without my support team; I would not be here.
