We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheridan Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheridan, what matters most to you?
There are many values that I stand by but the ones that matter most to me are kindness, gratitude, and perseverance. These values help me to be better and to look at life in a more positive and fulfilling way; not just for myself but for others as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a freelance photographer, specifically in architectural and travel photography. When I first started out as a photographer I wanted to only do fashion photography but I ended up branching off and doing other photography mediums. I’ve always had a love for travel and over the years I’ve grown a fondness for architecture. I will have to admit that work has been slow at times. I do enjoy what I do but also see the challenges of being a freelancer. There have been some moments where I’ve had success finding work and other times not so much. During those times I try to focus on personal projects that I neglected or look for part-time work to supplement my income. It’s not always easy and there have been moments where I’ve questioned my craft. I usually look back at where I was and realize I have come a long way. Even if I’m not exactly where I’d like to be one day I know I’ll get there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Washington DC wasn’t a place I ever expected to live but I’ve enjoyed the unique beauty of this city. There’s so much to do and see. I would recommend visiting national landmarks like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall, the Library of Congress, and any of the Smithsonian museums. One of my favorite areas in DC is a neighborhood called U St. There is so much rich history, art, and culture there and they have a local coffee shop that I enjoy called The Coffee Bar. There is also a great Mexican restaurant called Alero. The food is amazing and so are the margaritas. Walking through the neighborhood you get to see all the historic homes and art murals that are great for photos. Eastern Market is another cool place. It’s located in the Capitol Hill area. They have local vendors selling fresh foods and local art pieces. It’s a great way to get to know the community and support small business owners.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to dedicate this to my family, specifically my mom. My family has helped and supported me in different ways. Even though I come from a small family everyone is still there for one another. As for my mom, she’s been there for me through all my trials, failures, and successes. She’s seen me at my most vulnerable and even when I wanted to give up she told me to keep going. My mom has given me sound advice and listened to me vent on numerous occasions. She is a very loving, selfless, and kindhearted person. I’m honestly truly blessed to have a mom as wonderful as she is. My entire family is pretty awesome so this shoutout is for them.
