Meet Sheena Jones | Preschool Owner/Primary Educator
We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheena Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In March 2020, I left my classroom with the intention of returning after a family Spring break trip, but the onset of Covid changed everything. With friends and family seeking quality childcare and my husband’s support and encouragement, I took a leap of faith and I pursued my dream of opening my own preschool.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Memphis native, I find it incredibly exciting that Foundations Academy commenced its operations on September 1, 2020 (901 Day).
Foundations Academy, is providing preschoolers in Memphis with a high-quality preschool experience through our innovative curriculum, diverse extracurricular activities, and active community engagement. Our preschoolers not only benefit from a developmentally appropriate learning experience, but they also have the opportunity to explore some of the best Memphis has to offer. From fine dining to attending plays at the Orpheum, our preschoolers love to engage with the various aspects of our vibrant community.
While striving to be a pillar in Early Childhood Education and balancing the roles of wife and mother, some days can often feel longer and more demanding than others. I find peace and strength in my faith, the support of my family, and the invaluable connections within my community.
I hope that when you hear about, think of , or see Foundations Academy you will know that , “We Preschool Different Here!” I believe that childcare is a work of heart and our program will continue to offer preschoolers of Memphis and its surrounding areas an opportunity to have quality education, rich experiences and meaningful exposure!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My family adores Memphis cuisine, Gibsons Donuts, Fox Ridge Pizza, A&R Bar B Que, and Bayou Grill are a few of our local loves. We also cherish our community at Hill Chapel Baptist Church. Beyond those things, Memphis offers a ton of activities for families, including visits to the Children’s Museum of Memphis, and our Zoo. There are also opportunities for outdoor fun, such as picking apples or strawberries at local farms and kayaking. Memphis is a good time !
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In reflecting on my journey, I must express gratitude to my family and friends, especially my husband and daughters, for their support. Their encouragement and understanding have been the cornerstone of my success. Additionally, I am grateful for the support and camaraderie
within my childcare community. Malorie Hullett of Creative Collegiate Academy and Amber Buggs of Ordered Steps Learning Center have been instrumental in providing guidance and inspiration along this path.
