We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Toal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savannah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is a necessary part of life, especially for your career. You have to discover your line in the sand. I personally feel like risk taking has been apart of most of my life and an even bigger part of what I do now. I was always a bit of a wild card or dare devil growing up. I think I’ve been able to hone in and improve on that side of myself as I’ve gotten older and it’s been a great advantage. No decision is without consequence though and I’ve learned a lot about how to take the right risks for me through trial and error.

What should our readers know about your business?
Plant Savvy is a full service houseplant company that designs, installs and maintains interiorscapes and educates through workshops and consultations.

I actually started Plant Savvy from a blog. It was during 2020 and I needed a creative outlet while I was working a corporate job. I started making videos and posting online in my free time. Looking back on it I was creating the foundation of Plant Savvy: sharing my passion for plants with others. Now almost four years later, we have become a full service company backed by our wonderful team that strives to bring people’s plant dreams to life.

It was not easy and I have made some mistakes along the way, but everything has always seemed to work out for the best. I think a good lesson I learned along the way is to not force anything. All of the times that I was trying to force something to work it ended up being a bad idea. It’s a constant reminder for me that when one door closes another opens.

I am most proud of the plant design work we did at The Factory of Franklin this year! Over 400 plants were curated and installed to create an inviting and intriguing look for the new space. That project sparked a new chapter for Plant Savvy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout and thank you to my friend, Annie Maus, who has supported me through it all. Thank you for always listening and encouraging me when I needed it the most. You are forever an inspiration to me!
