We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole & Armand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole & Armand, what do you attribute your success to?
Broadtree was a product of the plague. We were two performers who had our entire world stripped away from us and we were itching to do something creative. We didn’t expect we’d be here 3 years later with any sort of success to our name, but the journey’s been fun so far!

Our story is a bit unique, in that it just kind of happened organically? Like, we never set out with intentions of starting a band. Armand approached me about a year into the plague to ask if I’d like to record a cover with him. From there, things just snowballed. Recording the song was fun, so we made a music video. Then we had a live-stream concert of covers to celebrate its release. Then we recorded some of those covers and released an EP. Then we decided to try writing our own songs. Everything came together so quickly, that by the time we were releasing an album of original songs, Broadtree was born of its own accord. It was never part of the plan, things just evolved that way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The theatre nerds in us would want to show them all the theatre our city has to offer. Not to mention the amazing food we have. Nicole’s the queen of finding cheap but delicious eats (not to mention awesome vegan spots). If you want unique and speakeasy bars, Armand will gladly show you some of his faves.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are way too many people to thank and recognize on what’s been an amazing journey, but last year was on for the books and it wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing band. We want to thank and shout out Tim Hance, Kevin Frank, Ángel Gomez, Emily Misura, and Andre Besel.
