Meet Miriam Benjamin | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Benjamin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriam, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because it’s who I am. It has been in me, and with me ever since I was born, and I used to try and stop it because it didn’t seem logical. Now I pursue it and I embrace it because it is all of me! It is what I know I will always be passionate about no matter what and it feels like a disservice to myself to not embrace this.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well. Hi, I’m Miriam. What sets me apart is that I am the only me out there. So what sets me apart is the same thing that makes me like everyone else I suppose. I grew up in a cult-the shiny happy people type of cult. I didn’t get to start truly living until 23 years old. How did I get here? Strength, sheer will and love. None of this has been easy. I have fought every single day to be here, to be alive and have fought just has hard for my dream. Balancing self care and health with this journey of to my dreams is extremely difficult but I am going after what I love-what is such a big part of me. Some of the lessons that I’ve learned along the way are, be free and set others free, give yourself your whole heart and all of your love, try new things because it is part of being happy and amazing things will happen when you shoot for the stars-you find out they’re not that far away. I learned that the people I’m inspired by in the music world are not relatable for me and that it’s ok. That I won’t have the “young” success and that’s ok. Because there are going to so many others who have gone through what I have and when I’m up on stage they will look at me and see someone who represents them. The people who were also not allowed to live until they were in their twenties or thirties or sixties…they will be seen and I am here for them. I learned that the secret ingredient to overcoming obstacles and to healing and creating and loving and living is to never give up and listen closely to your stomach and your heart.
What I want the world to know about my “brand” and my story is that they are one and the same. I am lucky to have no time to be anyone but my self 🙂 and that’s what you’ll get. I am strong, powerful, passionate, emotional, rational, illogical, creative, unpredictable, and more alive everyday that I wake up. I may not be able to change the world but I hope that I can help heal it as it heals me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my gosh this is the best question ever!!
First place would be Tacos Y Mariscos El Amigo!! Get three tacos there for breakfast. Then take a walk at Radnor lake!(good luck finding parking) then I would say stop at a store and grab some yummy snacks for your backpack and head to Cummins falls! Hangout there for a while and then come back into town and go to Taqueria San Martin on nolensville pike(the sweetest family owns this business and their green sauce will change your life!) and get some margaritas in a can from the marathon gas station it’s parked at 🙂 chill out and talk.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my fiancé, Spencer, he is a tennis pro coach in Murfreesboro . He is the most supportive and encouraging partner, and I have been able to share this very vulnerable journey with him, and I am so thankful.
I want to also thank “the creative act” which is a book written by Rick Rubin. This book reinspired me and thank you to my coworker, Rizzo, who suggested it to me.
I want to thank my little niece, who was born only five months ago, and who has inspired a whole different side of me-the beginner.
