Meet Lavonous Byars | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lavonous Byars and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lavonous, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since I was a little boy, I had always dreamed of becoming a professional artist. I can remember sitting in front of the TV and watching Bob Ross create brilliant art. I knew deep down in my heart that this is what I wanted to do with my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a visual artist. I absolutely love working with acrylic paint and spraypaint. Although I have used other mediums such as oil paint, charcoal, oil pastels ect. I have come to the conclusion that acrylic base paint works better for me.
I am recognized for my portrait printings and my galaxy spraypaintings. My clients admire my artwork and recommend other to me for personal commissions.
It brings me great joy to see how excided or how emotional the client can get once they receive their completed piece of art. I thrive to make a difference in the world. My art allows me to do that very thing.
I’ve come a long way from were I started. I feel the journey is actually just beginning. The road isn’t easy. If it were ment to be easy, everyone would do it! Becoming an artist is a very challenging path. It gonna take mindset shifts, discipline, and a lot of corrective criticism. When you put your work on display, you are gonna learn that some will like your artwork, and some won’t. You have to be okay with that! You will get pleasant customers, and some not so pleasant. The world will critique you as an individual, as an artist, and I dare say your style of creativite expression. We must not get caught up in the comparisons train, its not fun. I can truthfully say that I wouldnt be were I am as a creative person, had it not been for my Church friends, my faith, and my mentor Matt Tommey with the Created to Thrive mentoring program. I am very grateful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nashville is amazing. I am drawn to the art district. Downtown, there are so many murals. It blows my mind to see all the artistic talent in Middle Tennessee. I am a huge pizza fan! There is a place downtown called Luigi’s Pizza. Best pizza downtown. I enjoy going to the Bridgestone Arena. I enjoy World Wrestling Entertainment productions. I am a huge wrestling fan and often go to their shows when in town. Concerts are amazing. I remember going to my first Winter Jam concert; my family and I loved it! Great place. Nashville has a lot to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My local church has been a huge influence on my path to becoming an artist in Middle Tennessee. My leadership team and companions are very supportive and helpful in keeping me informed and on track. The church is full of professionals who have worked in the field as artists, selling commission-based artwork for many years and are more than willing to show me the ropes! I cannot thank the Art Ministry enough.
Matt Tommey is another influence in my life. Matt is an incredible mentor. Reading Matt Tommey’s books and listening to his podcast on listening apps or online has been a huge part of my mindset development and internal growth as an artist.
