We had the good fortune of connecting with Lane Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lane, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
That is not all daisies and roses the way it’s perceived on social media. There is so much content out there about all the positives of being in the beauty industry. Don’t get me wrong, it is super fun and a great creative outlet. However, there’s not a lot of honest content on what it the growing pains and trusting the process in the beginning stages of your career, and being able to maintain your career through the years. It’s all about being “Booked & Busy” nowadays that if providers have gaps or super slow periods (WHICH IS NORMAL) they get discouraged and leave before they could have really honed in their craft. My message to new beauty professionals out there is to start your career with patience and continue with passion. This industry looks fun on TikTok but it is truly hard work coming into your craft. It requires a lot of determination, practice, as well as trial and error, to become confident in your work and yourself as a service provider. If you want to be an Esthetician or Cosmetologist, no matter what service you want to provide, go for it! However, remember to give yourself grace and have patience. You have to trust the process in your career or unfortunately, the beauty industry is just maybe not for you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have specialized in inclusive body waxing and natural eyebrow treatments for over 5 years now. What sets us apart is the judgement free environment we offer to any and all who just want to enjoy some self care.

I have personally struggled with my weight most of my life and had my own struggles with being confident in my body. There’s always this inner thought that when you go out in public that people are judging you for your size, your body or your weight. It’s very haunting, and that’s when you have clothing on, let alone going into a setting (medical or not) where you have to strip down in front of a stranger. Not only even in an aspect of body size. There’s discrimination and judgement in all forms towards race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Self care is something that everyone deserves to enjoy no matter how it comes. When I was opening Browology I wanted to create not only a safe space but a safe culture in my salon that offered full inclusion. I always tell people that as long as you have a heart and a beating pulse, you’re welcome here. Browology is my most prized possession and I’m very proud of the environment that I’ve created for my staff and our clientele.

As being still a newer small business, I don’t plan to stop there. I want to expand to many more Browology locations in the future to continue offering a space that everyone can feel welcome in to enjoy their self care journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Literally anywhere but Broadway LOL! I’m a born & bred Native so I don’t care for the tourist traps within the city. If anything they just spike my anxiety.

I love East Nashville & Germantown for really cool & chill environments. Both parts of town have some of the best coffee shops, bars and restaurants that my Fiance and I personally enjoy. My favorite East Nasty spots are Bongo Java, Ugly mugs, Attaboy, Up Down, Lakeside Lounge, Chopper Tiki, Sid Gold’s request room, Chopper Tiki. For Germantown, is mainly dinner spots but we love Tailor Nashville and Fifth & Taylor.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Daniel, has always been my biggest cheerleader through my career. He was there from the beginning as I made my way into the industry after school and has seen me in every stage as I grew. I wouldn’t have had the motivation to open my business when I did without his help and guidance through it all. Still to this day is a big part of my business behind the scenes helping me with new ideas to bring to the salon, my numbers guy, etc. I am so grateful to him for the push to be the best version of myself.

I also want to acknowledge Kristina, my right hand and first employee. She has been by my side since the beginning stages of my business, starting as a mentee and great friend. She has now become a huge part of my life and Browology as a whole. She gave me more confidence in becoming a leader and has been a dream to work alongside. I adore her and couldn’t successfully run Browology without her.
