Meet King ROSS | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with King ROSS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King, what do you attribute your success to?
It may not be a skill or, to a certain extent, much of a quality… but it’s a mindset I’ve kind of always had. And that mindset is: Never being fully satisfied.
Being generally content, yes. But being fully satisfied, never!
I believe in quality over quantity. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist… and a little obsessive sometimes too. I’ve pretty much been like that my whole life, with everything. So naturally that transferred over to my music. But that’s what keeps me so connected to my creative side… There’s always more that can be done. There’s always more to learn. There’s always room for improvement. There’s always something I can do to get better and elevate my music.
Outside of learning how to use my life experiences as fuel to create better for myself, having that “Never Fully Satisfied” mentality has always had a heavy and positive impact my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a music artist, as well as a songwriter & producer.
The type of music I make is Rap and Hip-Hop.
I’ve always tailored my music around real-life experiences that I’ve been through… My hurts, pains, ups, downs, wins, losses and everything in between. On the contrary though, the majority of music in my genre is the basic gangster rap, thug, hood, street stuff that glorifies violence, drugs and overly sexualizing women. Rap has pretty much been in this state for the past 40 years… And what’s even worse is that, nowadays, almost every rapper out there says the same things and sound just alike. You can barely tell who from who…
A lot of rappers and public figures today, in my opinion, are horrible role models for the youth. What makes me most excited is being an inspiration for people all around the world. Showing those who are going through it that they’re not in it alone… That although they may be struggling, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel… and being someone who’s made it out that can truly relate to them, letting them know that they can do it too.
I got this far by simply not giving up. Was it easy? No, not at all… but my passion is what keeps that fire burning underneath me that’s kept me going each and every time things got hard. I never thought about quitting… I was born to be a leader and standout from the rest… plus I love music too much. Me having a successful music career has always been my only option.
My passion for music has brought me the biggest lesson I’ve learned thus far… and that’s to always follow your heart. Yes, take your brain with you, but never deny yourself of what you truly want. You desire it for a reason. So don’t ever allow anyone to persuade you into doing anything that doesn’t sit right with you… and don’t force yourself to do anything you don’t truly want to do. If it’s a necessary part of the process that must be done in order to achieve your goals, then do it. But if it isn’t, leave it alone. Your peace and happiness should be two of your top priorities. Keep it real with yourself and don’t ever let anyone else make a path for you… But love yourself enough to make your own path and walk it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I won’t even lie to you… I’m a straight homebody!
I’m only leaving the house if I feel it’s necessary. And once the mission’s complete, getting back home is the goal (LOL).
I’m not big on going out…
BUT… I will name a few places I’d take them on their visit…
The first would be Centennial Park out in West End… then to my favorite Chipotle in the city with is right across the street on West End Ave.
Eventually we’d have to visit my favorite Five Guys in the city too, which is right down the street from those two.
Top Golf would be a must… Maybe go downtown to Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse.
Another must is Opry Mills to do a little shopping… And depending on the time of the year, we might even go see a Titan’s game.
That’s probably it though honestly… I’m the last person you’d want as your tour guide (LOL).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, shoutout to God!
…because there really hasn’t been anyone who’s made a major or rememberable impact in my life or career. So many people have just came and went… and unfortunately for me, most of them were takers… Takers of my peace, takers of my money, takers of my time and takers of my energy! People helped financially here and there… some more than most… but no one ever really left a real impact on my life (mentally or emotionally). No one ever really reached me at a soul level… but I know that if it wasn’t for God protecting me and orchestrating my life in the way it’s played out thus far, I wouldn’t be where I’m at.
I will shoutout three people though…
The first is my big brother Braxton. Although he’s five years older, me and him were pretty much best friends coming up. We kind of still are. I just know that, although I’ve been around music my whole life, if it wasn’t for him being around and putting me up on so much music growing up, I probably wouldn’t have ever become a music artist.
Second is my older “little big sister” Desiree. We’re only a year apart, but we’ve been hand and hand since we were babies. We were always around each other… we even had some of the same friends and hung out with the same people. We’ve been like two peas in a pot our whole lives. She’s always been there for me. And even though we’ve kind of drifted apart as we’ve gotten older, she’s still and will always be one of my best friends.
And third is my girlfriend, Chasta.
These past few years have been extremely hard for me… I’m sure they have been for almost everybody… But after dealing with so much betrayal, abandonment, isolation, uncertainty and setback after setback, we found each other… and from day one, she’s been a hell of a helping hand if I ever known one.
