We had the good fortune of connecting with Joyce Kyles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joyce, how do you think about risk?
The risks I take in my life and career are necessary for my holistic success. So often we hear the phrase of no risk, no reward. I don’t just consider the reward. I also consider the regret I may feel if I don’t take the risk. I believe risk is immediately thought of with the mindset of what if something goes wrong. It is often synonymous with fear. The thought should be rooted in making an informed decision so that the ‘risk’ is indeed calculated and executed with the expectation of a positive result. Otherwise, what’s the point of taking it? I always learn something about myself when I take risks no matter the outcome. I gain more wisdom, clarity, and confidence in myself and my abilities, personally and professionally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m proud of my transition into business ownership and the ways I use my professional knowledge and lived experiences as a speaker, coach, and facilitator locally, nationally, and globally. I am known for my promotion of transitioning using transparency, storytelling, and practical applications for successful outcomes. I have an unwavering commitment to helping others identify and use their greatest assets to remove limiting beliefs and barriers to individually and collectively thrive.

One of the things that sets me apart from others is my “What Color Is Your Elephant?” framework. It’s a signature service that explores the root causes of why issues may exist in individual or collaborative spaces of responsibility and the tools that can be used for holistic peace, retention, and sustainability. I’m able to use the qualities I’m most known for in ways that resonate.

I’ve experienced a myriad of challenges along the way. Every business owner has. Two key lessons I’ve learned are the importance of goal setting and pivoting. Having a plan keeps you focused and something to look forward to. But life happens and things don’t always go as planned. You have to be flexible and make adjustments when necessary so ensure you don’t holistically fall apart.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m big on good food and meaningful conversation, and my husband and I have discovered some amazing places since moving to Georgia. Divan Restaurant and Bar is my absolute favorite and accomplishes so much in one outing-great food, ambiance, etc. and it’s multi-level with an outdoor patio. There are so many options to enjoy an amazing experience there. My best friend’s itinerary would also include historic, soul food restaurants like The Beautiful, the Jamaican & Caribbean cuisine of Escovitchez, and the Italian experience of Luciano’s. We’d hang out downtown at Centennial Park, and I’d wait for her to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel (I’m afraid of heights but all of my friends should enjoy the experience). We’d also have to include the great food and shopping experience of Ponce City Market where so many local small businesses are housed selling local, unique, and original brands. Lots of walking, talking, shopping, eating, and taking in all things local and cultural.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am fortunate to have a village of people who love and support the work that I do. At the top of that list are my husband and my children. I would not have chosen this entrepreneurial path, nor been able to sustain it without their encouragement and belief in me personally and professionally.
