Meet Jordan Woods | Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am in pursuit of a creative career because I feel like it is honestly pursuing me at the same time. I feel like regardless of what category I fall in, creativity wise, I will always have a niche for it. I started out drawing when I was in elementary school and I thought that was it for me. Then photography came into the picture (no pun intended) and I have just stayed consistent with it. I honestly don’t feel like this is the path I chose to be on, but the one I was put on. I don’t know how and can’t explain why but it just comes naturally to me. The pictures I can see in my head before I go to a photo shoot or if I see something while I’m at a photo shoot, I can paint the picture in my head and then somehow make it happen. I’ve been able to see with my brain first and then my eyes for as long as I can remember me doing photography and it is very strange to put into words, but as a creative, I’m sure other creatives can do it as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my outgoing personality. I have always been outgoing and I feel that it has benefited me in photography. I always feel comfortable letting my opinion be heard and I believe anyone that knows me personally can attest to that. I am very outspoken and recently I was the photographer at a classmates wedding and they thanked me for being outspoken and speaking up if something was not right. I felt appreciated in that moment especially given the fact that if I do not speak up ahead of time, then others may notice whatever it was I could have spoken up about in my photos after the fact and I do not want that. I also don’t want to notice it after and feel remorseful because I did not say anything.
I have spoken on the subject of challenges before and I will always say yes there are for sure challenges in photography. There’s always going to be that slight self doubt that lingers near you at all times. I have always thought I “think” I can when I should have known I could. I am a firm believer in manifestation and when you manifest something for so long and then you see it unfold in front of you and come to fruition, it is an absolute full circle moment. I have had people doubt my abilities in front of me directly and thankfully I am a strong-willed person, otherwise I would have given up by now for sure, but I can’t – I have people I want to make proud and I also have people to prove wrong. That freshman in high school did those senior pictures. That senior in high school did that wedding. That student in college submitted those pictures to that art show that his professor told him were “cliche” and he was the only one that walked away with an award. That young kid for sure did what others told him not to do and he did a damn good job.
One thing I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it is as authentic as it gets. I want to be the photographer that was also your friend at your wedding. I want to be Jordan Woods, not the one holding the camera at your wedding.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not really a traveler, so I’ll probably stick to exploring Nashville. As for food, I’ve been a huge fan of Cava and Pokenash lately. I had never tried a Poke bowl before this year, and I can’t believe I missed out on that for so long! I’m also a big fragrance guy, but I haven’t been to Refinery Fragrance in Nashville yet. It’s definitely on my list of places to check out downtown. If I’m showing someone around Nashville, I’d keep it simple – eat good and party on Broadway! I also love to cook, so if there are some friends visiting town, I’m definitely planning to cook at least once for them!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout Katie and Morgan Hallas, otherwise known as the masterminds behind @bykatieandmorgan on instagram. Those 2 are some of the greatest and most genuine photographers and friends I have. They have grown so much as photographers and a husband-wife duo. I have loved being able to watch what they’ve been creating over the past several years.
