We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Snell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
As I have gotten older I find my joy in more simple things. I really enjoy spending time with my cats and my friends and family. I am also very excited to be able to work with young folx. I see the passion and advocacy that they possess along with unlimited energy. Getting older has lots of ups and downs but learning to focus on experiences and the lives and growth of self and others is so much more enjoyable that focus on things.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My films are unique in that they are odd, bad, strange and sometimes almost unwatchable. For some reason people have enjoyed some of my film projects and or ideas. Dick Chicken was an early project that people seemed to connect to, followed by Jeff Shaves his Beard, Jeff Plays (where I learn to play the theremin) and I will probably be best known for Meth Gator, the film that never happened.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite local eatery is Mexico Lindo. We would probably eat there, go to McKays book and music and then cat a movie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many people that have been influential in my life. As for philosophical leanings, the book Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl has really helped me to see the world in a way of things that I have control over and things I do not have control over. In the local film world the names are too many to mention but I got my start submitting films to The Knoxville Film Festival and has some mentoring and support from it’s director Keith McDaniel. My cats are also a huge part of my success. They have been with me every step of the way.
