Meet Gina Carrillo | Black Widow – Spoken Word Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Carrillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve embraced turning Pain into Art & Poetry! It is very stress relieving & therapeutic as well! I kept my poetry to myself for far too long! I’m definitely ready to show the world what I have to offer! My experiences have shaped who I have become! A warrior, fighter & survivor!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My writings are of Love, Loss, Strength & Resilience About overcoming deaths, beating cancer, and domestic violence
My art is colorful, bright, expressive and unique.
I’m inspired by the Art of Monet & Da Vinci, also the writings of Shakespeare & Poe. I’ve been influenced into a style that is classified as Gothic Poetry.
I’ve displayed paintings at Square Market & Cafe in Downtown Columbia.
Also have copies of my Book at the Williamson County Library & at Melody’s One Stop Book Shoppe.
Just as painting is an expression of one’s innermost feelings, my poems also show the same passionate depth of emotions.
My poetry is thought provoking and soul searching. I hope that you enjoy reading or viewing my art and that it makes you feel something!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friend comes into town, we would definitely go to Ruby Sunshine for breakfast in Downtown Franklin. We can walk all around the town and go in and out of the cute shops! We can then go to Opryland Hotel to walk around and then check out Opry Mills mall. Then, we can go downtown to Broadway and check out the nightlife! We also need to check out the State Museum & then hit up a Poetry Open Mic Show!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
