Meet Emma Ohm | Musician/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Ohm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Outsiders don’t realize how much work goes into making music that has nothing to do with making music. I spend at least half of my time booking shows, creating merch, posting on social media, communicating with other musicians I’m working with, making a budget, pitching songs to playlists, blogs, etc, and none of this is performing/writing the music, which is what most people think artists spend the majority of their time doing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an artist, I say that I am an old soul and a kid at heart. While the industry has an emphasis on growing up fast, I encourage the opposite. I’m classy, quirky and always true to myself. I take pride in having a cross-generational appeal, knowing I can impact anyone from a 2 year old to a 92 year old. It was not easy to get to where I am. Sure, anyone can release music on Spotify these days, but releasing music that is impactful, authentic and timeless? No easy feat. Every day presents new challenges but I overcome them by continuing to meet people that have been in the business for longer and who can help/mentor, by making sure that I am always enjoying the music I’m working on to prevent myself from burnout, and by taking my time. The world makes it feel like everything has to happen on a certain timeline, but it doesn’t! My faith is very important to me and I find so much comfort in knowing that God will always make things happen in His perfect timing, not my own.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, I am a huge nature fan and most of my friends are as well. I would take my friend to great hiking destinations such as Percy Priest Lake, Radnor Lake, and then travel a bit outside of Nashville to go to some of my favorite waterfalls, such as Greetar Falls in Altamont or Cummins Falls in Cookeville. Obviously, music is a must as well, venue wise, we would hit up Rudy’s Jazz Club, the Listening Room, the Flamingo Cocktail Club, and, if we time it right, show up to be a part of “The Choir Room”, a faith based organization that puts hundreds of people in a room and has them sing communal worship songs, choir style and recorded on the spot. Food wise, anything with a good variety of options, as I lightly follow the pescatarian lifestyle. Fat Mo’s is a fave, along with Cafe Coco & Avo the vegan restaurant.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I thank Jesus for His love and His grace and constant presence in my life. Second I thank my family who has supported me from day one. I thank my high school music teacher Chris Gemkow for being one of the first people to believe in me and push me to do what was uncomfortable, and my guitar teacher, Jeff Hansel.
