We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Reynolds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have been an artist from the time I was able to hold a pencil and I have always used art to express myself and at most times, escape from my reality. Now as an adult, art is my reality. Having my passion as my career has given me the freedom to test the limits of my knowledge and talent. I love that there are no boundaries on being artistic or creative. You can choose to learn something new everyday and there will never be a limit. I’ve lived by this motivation and now I get to use my artistic talent everyday!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professionally licensed private tattoo artist in Clarksville, Tn and I offer all styles of work in both black and grey and color with a focus on full color/B/G illustrative realism and coverups. Although there are more than a handful of tattoo shops in my town, I am most proud of the fact that I am able to maintain a solid clientele base while being a solo private artist, because of the exclusive experience I offer during appointments. My clients are vibing in their own comfort without the obligation of sharing their experience with an audience. They get to relax and choose how they want their experience to go, whether with music or the latest Netflix shows, or even great conversation.

It was definitely not easy getting here and it required a lot of personal sacrifice. I started my journey in the tattoo industry with a new born child and I had to juggle being a new mom while finishing my apprenticeship. I gave a lot of hours to my craft and unfortunately missed out on life because I believed in myself and my dream of being a tattoo artist. Now I own my brand, Inked Behavior. Successfully running a small tattoo business has been a very enlightening experience that has had quite a few ups and downs. I’ve had the odds stacked against me multiple times, one of them being a natural disaster. Having a tornado rip through your building after only 6 months of being open was almost devastating to recover from. However, with the support of the community and fellow artists, I was able to keep my head above water and now I am coming up on a year of being open. If the world were to ever bless me enough by knowing my name and of Inked Behavior, I hope people see my story as an inspiration to continue to pursue their dreams no matter the circumstances. It is possible to be a mom and have a career. I hope they see Inked Behavior is a beautiful representation of journey and destination and if they aren’t thinking on a deeper level, then I hope they just think I’m a good person that makes beautiful tattoos and has a cool shop!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I enjoy rooftop bars so I would take her to the White Limozeen on top of the Graduate, for some drinks overlooking the city or even on top of the W. We could get breakfast at the Marsh House in the Gulch because their shrimp and grits are so amazing. Gumbo Bros, also in the Gulch, for lunch one day would also hit the spot! If we wanted a nice hangout spot during the day, we could do to the Hampton Social or even the Pinewood Social! If we wanted to enjoy being outside then we could walk around Bicentennial or catch some scooters and ride around downtown Nashville.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout the tattoo community in Clarksville, Tn because without meeting any of them, I would not be where I am today. I would like to thank my mentor, Luna Rogers, for giving me the chance to learn from her and for supporting me in my journey, as well as my tattoo colleagues, friends, clients, and supporters. I would also like to shoutout ArtLink for pouring into me and reminding me always of my passion for art and how it can bring a community together!
