We had the good fortune of connecting with Betty Collier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Betty, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I’ve been an author since 2009, but even I was surprised how different the children’s book market is from adult books. I just published my first children’s book in December, 2023, and now the real work has begun in 2024 to market and promote it. It’s totally different from all the marketing and promoting I did with my adult books. I think most people assume it’s just the click of a button on Amazon, and voila, there you have your favorite book delivered to your front door. There is so much that happens behind the scenes once the manuscript has been written. Authors know that is only the beginning, while most readers assume that is the end of the process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve crossed book genres and found success writing inspirational nonfiction, christian fiction, and children’s books. I’ve had #1 bestsellers in all 3 genres, and many of my books have won national awards. I’m proud every time a reader chooses to read one of my books. There are millions of books to choose from, so whenever someone chooses one of mine, that is an honor and privilege that I don’t take lightly.

It hasn’t been an easy road because I have self doubt and suffer from imposter syndrome, basically meaning although I have a following of readers and have found success in being an inspirational author, I doubt myself and my abilities as a storyteller. The only way I can overcome the fear of failure is simply to trust God, for it is HE who gives me the ability to write.

What I want the world to know is that with every book I write, there is a message embedded that will inspire and encourage you. You will find my storytelling to be unique from most, and I only ask that you try one of my books. I believe once you read the first one, you will come back looking for more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and bred in Bartlett, TN, which is a suburb of Memphis. While Bartlett is the best hometown I know, it’s not really known to be a vacation spot. It’s where people want to live and raise their families. When guests come to town, they want to visit all the tourist attractions in Memphis. The most iconic is probably Graceland, home of Elvis Presley. The must see attraction to me would be the National Civil Rights Museum. I’ll quote its mission statement as they summarized it much better than I can explain it: “The National Civil Rights Museum honors and preserves the legacy of Dr.. Martin Luther King, Jr. We chronicle the American civil rights movement and tell the story of the ongoing struggle for human rights. We educate and serve as a catalyst to inspire action to create positive social change.” This is needed NOW more than ever in our country’s history!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shout out is always to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is only because of Him that I began writing in 2009. I was divinely inspired and literally started writing overnight after dreaming about the front cover of my first book. I have 10 books to my credit now, and I’m currently working on #11 and 12 at the same time. My sole purpose of writing is to bring honor and glory to God. How I do that is the unique part of my storytelling gift because it is so subtly done that most readers don’t know what hit them until the book has ended. They receive the message within the book without even realizing what has occurred. So for that, I must give all honor and glory to my heavenly father.
