We had the good fortune of connecting with Avvi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avvi, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?

As an artist, I want my songs to be my legacy. One of the most gratifying things about being a creative is memorializing your art into something tangible to share with others! My music is something that can be passed down to future generations. Ultimately, I want to be remembered for my integrity and leaving behind a lasting, positive impact on others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would describe my music as indie alt-pop with pop-rock undertones. My style is a cross between Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and Conan Gray. I think what makes my music unique is my songwriting. I am a poet at heart—I love playing with words and metaphors! When I write, I want the listener to feel what I feel, so I try to capture that feeling through the words and the melody. What I am most proud of so far is my EP, Indulge Me, which I released this past July! Indulge Me is my first collection of songs that I have released. Writing an EP was creatively freeing because I got to tell a story through a collection of songs as opposed to just one song. Indulge Me is a short-story about failed relationships and the growing pains of personal insecurities, which led me to finding the real-thing-love. It was a project that I worked on for almost a year, which made releasing those songs even more rewarding because of all the hard work that went into putting the EP together.
My journey of how I got to where I am today started when I was five years old. I started taking cello lessons and fell in love with music. At age eleven, I started taking classical voice lessons and began writing my own songs. Throughout my adolescence and into college, I studied cello and voice. However, I took a step back from music when I went to law school. At that time, I was letting my perfectionism steal the joy music had brought me, and it was hard for me to create. I felt like a piece of me was missing, though, when I stopped singing and writing songs.
After law school, I was motivated to get back into music. At that point, I had a collection of songs that I wanted to share with the world. In 2021, I released my debut single, “Liar in Bed,” and have released many songs since. While I was taking a break from music, I had learned to give myself grace and allow myself to create without self-judgement. I am still very much a perfectionist, but I am no longer afraid of making mistakes. Life is too short not to pursue what you are most passionate about!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take them to a rooftop bar such as Bobby Hotel or Rare Bird so they can see the city’s skyline. Another one of my favorite spots is The Fox Bar & Cocktail. I love a great cocktail! For sightseeing, I would take them around Music Row, Broadway, and The Gulch. Some of my favorite places to eat are in East Nashville such as Mas Tacos Por Favor and Lyra!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to a music mentor who encouraged me to keep pursuing music, Doug Montcrieff. I first met Doug in high school when I started taking vocal lessons with his wife, Kathy. Both Doug and Kathy were remarkable musicians and music industry mentors who were incredibly supportive of my music. Around the time I started to pursue a career as a solo artist, I reached out to Doug for advice, and we had a beautiful conversation over the phone about songwriting and being a musician. During that conversation, he told me to never give up and to keep on writing, even if the song was half finished or would never see the light of day. Sadly, Doug passed away suddenly a couple weeks after our phone call. I treasure the mentorship of Doug and Kathy. To this day, a part of me keeps pursuing music because of Doug.
