Meet Amaris

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amaris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amaris, please tell us about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I create music, I am music. I sing the blues, I like to use music as an emotional outlet and have been doing so forever now. The blues resonates with my soul because it is indeed soul-singing. Also having southern roots, the blues and BB King to name a few, was often played in my household. There is a difference between RNB and the blues. The blues are so raw and uncut that it effortlessly paints a vivid picture within a particular time frame. It is a snapshot of history. I love hip-hop and “old school” music as well, so I rap too. I grew up listening to DJ Kool Herc, DJ Spanish Fly, Kool Moe Dee, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, Afrika Bambaattaa, Grandmaster Flash, etc.
Being born in 97, I was also listening to Project Pat, MGK & 8ball, Missy Elliot, Ciara, Michael Jackson, Outkast, B.O.B, Lil Wayne, etc so they all influenced my sound and the type of music I liked.
I am a different kind of artist because I am aware. Aware of me. Aware of my music. Aware of my surroundings. Most importantly aware of my community and the impact my music can have on others. Throughout my success in the upcoming years, I plan to give back to the community and also empower the black community as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m in West Memphis, AR we are literally a 5 minute drive from downtown Memphis, TN. I can actually see the skyline of downtown Memphis from my backyard just to give you an idea.
Two of my favorite places in Memphis to eat are The Majestic Grille and The Flying Fish. Lord, I love me some flying fish!! They got everything almost. I like to get the seafood boil but they have other Delicious options. Majestic Grille is something you don’t never need to play with, it is SO good. Their bread is amazing and they have some really good porkchops and it’s served with a chutney ontop. I love a good chutney. Overton Square has a lot of fun options as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Father, Joseph Trask Jr, my Grandfather Joseph Trask Sr and my aunty who has played a pivotal role in my life Tonjya Trask.
