Meet Addison Oaks | Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Addison Oaks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Addison, how do you think about risk?
Here’s the thing about “thinking” about risk…more often than not, the more you think, the less risks you take. Whether I am coming up with a content idea for social media, making a business decision or even a life decision, I have found the most success in the decisions that I am making on a whim. I mean that’s kind of the point of life right? Don’t think too much about it, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Addison Social Co., I aim to take the toxicity out of social media for each of my clients. And honestly anyone I have a conversation with about social media. Too often do I see people taking it way too seriously or looking at social media as a chore rather than a creative outlet.
Social media should be an extension of your brand, but the real life you is the true brand.
One of the things I find the most joy in my career is watching the growth of my clients over time. And I don’t mean numerical and growth of following necessarily. But growth in their confidence and finding a healthy relationship with posting.
As I mentioned, I’ve gotten to where I am today with the constant support and encouragement of those I am surrounded by. Having a lot of people in my community that are also entrepreneurs really has had a positive effect on my mindset and motivation. God has placed me in the right rooms with the right people, so as long as I keep following Him, I trust He will continue to do just that!
I think anyone who is self-employed knows it’s not a breeze. But nothing in life that is worth having is ever easy! One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that I was not as great as time-management as I once thought. When you don’t have someone time blocking your day for you, you have to step up and do that yourself, which ultimately requires A LOT of discipline.
Another important lesson I learned is that you have to take care of yourself. Burnout is so real, so take care of your mind and your body so that you can show up for your clients!
I think I want people to know that everyone has their own unique journey and their story deserves to be heard.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I without a doubt owe where I am in my career and life today to those who trusted me enough to take a chance on me. Handing over your personal brand or business that you built to a random social media manager, like myself, takes a lot of courage. I am forever grateful for those first clients that put their trust in me – some of which are still working with me to this day!
Expanding on that, I give credit for the growth of my business to those who have recommended me to others. Having people personally recommend you is a form of marketing that has no price tag. At this point in my freelance career, I have been blessed to have gained business solely through word of mouth.
So shoutout to my clients, friends, family and those that are all of the above. I truly couldn’t do what I do without them!
