We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Elder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind any success I have had, small or big? My short answer would be God. Because I know that without Him and apart from Him, I can do nothing. I gave up music for a while and I really had no desire to do anything with it again. Years later I felt like God led me back to music and restored my desire to do it again. I’ve tried making my own way with music and every time I do, I don’t see a lot of fruit come from it. But it seems like every time I just leave it in God’s hands and take it one step at a time, doing what He wants me to do and trusting His plan, that’s when more doors open. So I know it’s not anything that I’m doing. I just have to trust Him and let Him lead me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Christian music artist and songwriter. I play music and share testimonies of what God has done in my life at all kinds of events, such as festivals, churches, prisons, concert venues, coffee shops, and more. I’m excited that I get to play music and share hope to others that may be hurting or need some encouragement. This journey has definitely not been easy. There have been challenges where sometimes I have questioned if this is what I am supposed to be doing or not. A lot of times when I start questioning it, I’ll run into someone that will randomly tell me that a song they heard of mine has helped them or that they are so glad that I am playing music again, or something else that encourages me to continue. One of the biggest lessons that I have learned along the way is to give God control, and let Him lead me. And like my song, “Passenger Side” says, “I gotta remember You have a perfect plan for my life. But I’ve gotta let You drive and hop over into the passenger side.” It’s not easy to always do, but it’s worth it to surrender my life to God’s perfect plan for my life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh this is a tough one. I love Downtown Franklin, TN so much. So I would say anywhere in Downtown Franklin. Pizza Perfect in Nashville has amazing pizza and is just one of those places that is a good memory spot for me and my wife. You have to catch a show at the Bluebird Cafe and some of the other venues that have writer rounds. A great coffee spot that has great food is at 2nd and bridge called The Coffee House at Second and Bridge. Merridee’s is a must for either lunch or some treats. And then for dinner, McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery in Franklin.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been so many people that have supported, encouraged, or even mentored me in different areas with music. To name a few, I would say my wife, my in-laws, my family, some friends, and other artists that I’ve looked up to in their careers have all been encouraging in different ways and even at different times. Other artists that I haven’t met in person, but their mission and music have been inspiring to me, such as Jeremy Camp, MercyMe, Phil Wickham, Brandon Lake, Zach Williams, Anne Wilson, Matthew West and many others. Mark and Suzan Mason have been very supportive of my music in putting me on multiple events with them and their ministry called, Life on the Verge Ministries. There are so many people that I could mention for support and encouragement. I’m grateful to them all.
