Meet Zachary Holcomb | Public Adjuster and Insurance Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zachary Holcomb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zachary, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I began my insurance career after faithfully serving in the United States Marine Corps. My extensive background in claims began while working on a catastrophic response team for American Family Insurance covering each part of the United States responding to wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, mudslides, and environmental disasters. Additionally, I’ve served on complex large loss ligation teams handling the most difficult cases over the years that were settled at the state, circuit, and appellate levels . The direct field experience built a robust understanding of how every claim should be treated ranging from routine daily losses up to million dollar losses in catastrophic events. The direct carrier insurance background over a decade in claims inspired me to build a path to serve all parties involved. I saw first hand the gap between homeowners and contractors in the claims process. Contractors confused on the property supplement process and homeowners missing critical steps causing timely delays, incorrect payments, and missing information. Insurance Supplement Solutions and Holcomb Public Adjusting were founded with the principle that every homeowner and contractor deserves a better claim experience. I saw first hand how recovering from a fire, flood, tornado, hail and other damages is not easy. The insurance process can be tedious, and drawn out. Our dedicated team handles all aspects of the claim in house. Each client is assigned a dedicated representative who holds your hand throughout the process. What should our readers know about your business?
Insurance Supplement Solutions is a property insurance consulting company and public adjusting firm that builds around our client’s needs to streamline efficiency with insurance claims to include: roofing, siding, gutters, exterior, and restoration review. We leverage years of experience to help homeowners, roofing companies, and general contractors work with insurance companies to get repairs done and property owners back on their feet. We place the highest level of attention on our client’s reputation in the marketplace and as a fiduciary, we are solely focused on our clients needs.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy?
Early in my career I knew I wanted to go work for myself at some point. The vision wasn’t as clear 13 years ago but the entrepreneurial spirit has always been inside of me. I knew focusing on my career to educate myself, taking risk in new roles, and never being scared of challenges would eventually lead me to that goal of opening my own business. Traveling across the country for months at a time living in hotels and sometimes the company vehicle created some difficult times missing friends, family, and experiences back home. However, the work I was performing was not only essential but provided hope for people who just lost everything. I took the leap of faith to open this public adjusting firm and consulting firm in 2022 after realizing my calling was now to represent homeowners after a devasting loss.

Lesson’s learned
Setting expectations not limitations! Everyday I have the wonderful opportunity to work with people who are going through one of the most difficult times of their lives. Their home is destroyed, kids and pets are displaced and many are left scratching their head. The ability to represent homeowners in this process to eliminate the technical debt, paperwork, and negotiate that many don’t even know where to begin is truly rewarding. Homeowners trying to collect what property they have left after a fire, or recall what heirlooms are not accounted for is devastating. To play a role in restoring a customer back to their life makes this job worth it everyday! Above all, treating everyone with the respect they deserve and seeking to find common ground is what separates our firm. We are invested from the time we take the first call until the final inspection.

Should I Hire a Tennessee Public Adjuster?

​​The burden of proof to prove the extent of your loss to the insurance company lies squarely upon your shoulders. Insurance policies can be complex and contain confusing language. There are also many conditions, exclusions and limitations. Policy language gets very technical. This adds to the stress of an already distressful loss experience. For an insurance company to write that check which will allow you to rebuild after your loss, there are certain conditions which must be satisfied. Failure to do so could reduce your settlement amount or worse cause your claim to be denied.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start in the old city grabbing food and drinks from some of my favorite places such as The Kennedy, Osteria Stella, and STIR! All of them having world class service and balanced menus with particular subtlety’s that makes each one special! We’d explore Ijams Nature Center in the beautiful historic Island Home District of South Knoxville. We would check out Market Square and enjoy some live music from Scruffy City Hall and enjoy a nice drink at Radius Rooftop Lounge!

The inspiration, motivation, and dedication I approach everyday as business owner came from my uncle Alan Devan. Alan recently retired as the Senior Vice President of Engineering & Operations at Sevier County Utility District. His compassion and professionalism was driven by his faith. He has restlessly served his community as the AYSO VIP Soccer Co-Coordinator serving the children of East Tennessee. The AYSO VIP program provides a quality soccer
experience for children and adults whose physical or mental disabilities prevent them from successful participation on mainstream teams. I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to Alan Devan for leading our family and community by his actions.
Additionally, I would be remised to not mentioned my beautiful, loving, and amazing wife Brianne Holcomb. Brianne’s ability to provide oversight, and clarity at the most challenging times have grounded me throughout this journey. She is my best friend and the most amazing mother to our children Isabella and Isaac Holcomb.
