Meet Will Barnhart | Musician & Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Barnhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was a child my parents absolutely adored music and played a huge part into my passion for the craft. I would play air guitar to songs on my CD player or cassette player and I always thought it would be awesome if I could even think about playing the songs myself. When I started middle school. I was given the opportunity to learn how to play guitar, piano, and trumpet. Let me tell you, I couldn’t get enough of it! I kept going into it, and as I got older I got to learn how to play many more instruments, and even started learning how to record and audio engineer.
After years of retail, pharmacy, construction, management, any job under the sun, if it exists; I’ve most likely worked it! I found the opportunity to start creating music as my business. I always thought about it in my teenager years, and said to people “I wanna be a musician when I grow up!” Much to the doubt of teachers and other “Mentors” in my life. I’ve been able to use that fuel to continue growing in my craft!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Personally, what can be considered setting me apart with others is that I like to incorporate many styles of genres, or styles of playing even into a different genre of music! I’m super excited to share an EP with my band Delicate Jealousy, my features in songs with other artists, and I’ve been working on a full length solo album! All of these different things so far I get to put my ideas into reality whether I’m just assisting in the producing world, or when it’s a solo album I’ve been developing for years. I love being able to assist artists achieve their max potential from an audio engineer standpoint. But also being able to attempt to be unique with my own music I create!
As for how I got to where I’m at now, it’s been an interesting road to say the least! I started Delicate Jealousy as a concept for 3 albums. Over the years with new members and a new version for the whole thing. It’s definitely changed since I was a highschooler with a dream to perform in front of audiences and record awesome music. I started from scratch with my own money to be able to support the idea of creating quality music in a professional manner. I’ve had a lot of doubts and anxiety throughout the years, plus life has been chaotic over the past 5-6 years. But you roll with the punches and keep going!
When I started getting chances to record others, or create music for people. I didn’t think it was coming true, “How in the world is someone thinking I’m a good choice for their music?” Would be rolling around in my head. After a few years of recording music for myself and others, mixing and mastering, and being able to fill in for other bands as well as play my own music a bunch of times. I’m honestly just grateful for the ability to be able to be in this position I’m at. Especially now with new beginnings with my new Music production and multimedia company, Re:Chord Productions!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
See there’s a few things I can think about! If you’re in Nashville one of things you have to do is take your friend to Broadway and show him all the bars and music out there! It depends on the person and what you’re in the mood for. Personally, you can’t go wrong with is The Stage on Broadway! But some of my other personal favorites are Honky Tonk Central, Legends Corner, and Lucky Bastard Saloon. You can never go wrong with any of these choices.
You also have to check out Assembly Food Hall, and the outdoor mall out in that area! You can start in the late afternoon. Grab a drink, have some food at Hattie B’s or one of the other amazing joints in the vicinity, and then finish the night off at the Skydeck with a beautiful view of Broadway while you sip on a drink and enjoy a wonderful concert space!
While on the topic of food downtown, let’s talk about Breakfast! Varallo’s is great for an old fashioned breakfast. Rise Biscuit Company has a Cheerwine donut (A delicacy from the Carolina’s) And you can’t go wrong with either of those. For a late night bite to eat, check out Till Five Pizza by Sheraton Grand. One of the best Chicken Philly’s you can find in the south!
You also have to check out the Johnny Cash Museum, as well as the National Museum of African American Music because both are amazing in their own unique fashion!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve got a few people I’d love to shoutout, as without them I wouldn’t be growing the way I have been for the last couple of year:
Aaron Creamer & Justin White: These are the guys in the band with me, and without their brotherhood and their craftsmanship in the music I have absolutely no clue where I would be as far as a member of a band, these guys have made me realize to keep pushing my limits in the music realm since we’ve been working together!
Randy Kohrs with Slack Key Studio, his knowledge in the audio engineering world has helped me tremendously with what he’s shared with me from times I’ve spent with him, from his kindness and hospitality, to him being a monster behind the mixing board. If you’re in the Nashville area, I cannot recommend him enough for your producing needs!
Lastly, I’d like to Shoutout Tyler Mckenzie with Re: Envision Entertainment/Re:Chord Productions! He’s been a vital part to the new business and his work Ethic and leadership are unmatched! Very happy to create beautiful music with him, and be working alongside him with the vision we set out for our company!
