Meet Victoria Morgan | Owner + Principal Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my interior design firm business purely as a hobby and as a way to stretch my legs creatively. I had taken the traditional route of college, graduate school, corporate job with an attempt to climb the ranks and retire after 30 years; however, after 10 years, I found it to feel stifling. I’d always love interior design but I didn’t know how to make it a career–and with no previous experience, or a degree in the field, no well run interior design firm would hire me.
I started designing spaces for friends and family members in college, and continued in my adult years. There was one neighbor, turned client, who asked me why I didn’t charge for my services, and I said, “Oh, well because I just love to do it.” His reply, “That doesn’t mean you don’t charge.” Strangely, that never dawned on me. I always saw work as something you get through to an eventual end, it’s not necessarily going to be enjoyable. After that, I took some interior design courses, and launched Haven’s Hallow Interiors in 2018. I’m blessed to be able to do what I love and call it work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My design process with homeowners has a bit of an unconventional dynamic. I’ve a Master’s in Professional Counseling and was a therapist for a time before starting my 10 year career in product management (all prior to interior design). I’m so incredibly fascinated with the field of psychology and never really quite noticed how closely aligned our design preferences are shaped by psychological history, My experience in understanding the undertones of what people are not sharing with me, helps me ask targeted questions to best create spaces that completely reflect the inhabitants of the the homes I’m designing. Looking through our portfolio, you won’t see a strong consistent theme of design styles, as we’re aiming to design tailor made spaces for each individual client.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Having friends and family travel to visit Nashville, is really quite a normal occurrence, as neither my husband or I are from the city. Oftentimes, when friends pop in to visit here are a few things we do: – Eat. Nashville is nothing if not overflowing with dining options within our relatively small footprint. We’re definitely going to grab a few bites to eat and with my husband being plant based and me pescatiarian, a few of our favs to share are Moto, Adele’s, Avo, Graze, and Taqueria Del Sol.
– Activity: We love getting active. My husband is a cyclist, so he will encourage renting bikes to ride around Nashville’s Airpark in East Nashville, or we might go to SOAR, to get a little active competition out.
– Touring: We typically love showing our visitors the highlight of our city from the comfort of our own car. We’ll show them areas that great to hang out, great art scenes, or great neighborhoods with striking properties. This last one, I think our visitors like to see, but it’s one of my favorites, so they likely just humor me until we make our way to dinner.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success is still very much growing, but I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the grace and protection from my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He’s blessed me with an amazing partner, my husband, Tad Mogan. Without his unwavering support, I would have never taken the leap into entrepreneurship.
