We had the good fortune of connecting with Vetrica Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vetrica, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Honesty. I have customers who ask what’s all in a certain food item. I have customers who don’t eat pork, allergic to shellfish or have an intolerance to certain foods. Instead of trying to make a sale, I always tell them the truth about any product that I sell.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a restaurant and food truck owner. What sets me apart from anyone else in my town, is that I cook everything fresh to order. I offer menu items that other restaurants don’t. Which is beneficial because it increases my sales. The most exciting thing about owning a restaurant is that you have made someone’s soul happy and their bellies full from cooking. It’s always a bonus when they call, text or shout you out on social media. That brings me so much joy and satisfaction. I got where I am today by being consistent and firm on myself. Even when I don’t feel like going to work. I push myself to go because it’s important to show up for work. Being a restaurant owner is not easy. There are a lot of expenses (expected and unexpected) that go into running a restaurant. Equipment may go out which can cause your business to take a profit lost. I’ve learned that to go in business with a positive mindset and pray through the day. I want the world to know that with God all things are possible. There was a time that I thought I would have to surrender my business because sales were down when I first opened but now my business is thriving because I never gave up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to O’Taste & See and I would cook for him personally. I would take him to Serendipity for drinks and a calming atmosphere. The Tina Turner museum would be a great place for us to check out and chat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
