We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Gomez-Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been a creative throughout my life but I did not think I could use that creativity to transform it into a career. The beauty industry has a stigma around it, most don’t see it as “a real career” especially in the past, so as a young adult I always felt I should be looking for a “real job” and the beauty industry wasn’t even on my radar. Looking back now it seems so obvious. I grew up admiring my mother’s love for beauty and always excelled in creative arts, as an adult this is a manifestation of both of my passions and inspirations coming to fruition.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am brand new to Tennessee, moving from the hustle and bustle of big city Chicago to the small town of Spring Hill, which is why I rebranded to The Urban Cowgirl Esthetics . I am bringing my urban creative city vibe to Spring Hill with my eccentric studio space, fun personality and new and creative ideas. It is definitely daunting to start all over from scratch in a new city but I am confident I am bringing valuable services to my area that cater to a diverse clientele and my vibe will attract my tribe here. I specialize in customized skin health treatments in my studio that are tailored to each individual client and their conditions.

Intimate waxing is a passion of mine because of the trust and vulnerability required of my customers and myself . I allow my clients 30 min appointments for their intimate waxes because I want them to not feel rushed or take a break if they need it. Many places want as many clients as possible in an hour but my clients get 30 minutes because I know they may need them but won’t ask!

Professionally I started out as a solo esthetician, that is all I know, it’s not the easier route to take but I always love a challenge. I have learned you need to be flexible and learn to pivot not only in this industry but in life, because there will always be unexpected challenges.

I am a mother, but also a mother to a special needs child and it has shown me how to have compassion and patience. That is something that translates into my business because everyone you meet always has a story and I always try to make their visit with me the most comfortable possible because you never know what anyone is going through.

This career choice saved my life. I was going through post-partum depression along with other challenges and did not want to be here at one point in time. I felt lost and had no direction with my life, especially navigating being a special needs mom and all that comes with it. Esthetics re-ignited my passion for the creative side of me and allowed me to find an identity outside of parenthood and everything else I was going through.

One accomplishment I am proud of is becoming an educator for Circaida , a professional skincare line that is taking over the industry. I am proud to be one of their bilingual educators helping Spanish speaking Estheticians learn about the brand and not feel underrepresented in the industry.

I want my brand to be known for being unapologetically you and finding your voice and your people. My goal is to create a safe space for all ages, races and body types to feel seen and taken care of. I hope my my clients feel like they are visiting a friend and to know they are not alone even if it’s just for the time they spend with me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a coffee girly and I have discovered that Tennessee is definitely not short of amazing coffee shops. I love going to 1819, the grounds there are beautiful, coffee is amazing and I love the their message that looks to decrease depression, anxiety, and suicide rates by creating a space for community and friendships. As someone who struggles with anxiety and went through post partum depression I am passionate about this subject and grateful to have a place like it near.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my support system, my husband who always supports all of my dreams and endeavors selflessly, my mother in law who is a second mother to me and a cheerleader to my success, and all of my family for always finding ways to be in my corner in whichever ways they can.
