Meet Trystan Grisham | Musician, singer, songwriter, and producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trystan Grisham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trystan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being creative is in my blood! There’s nothing I love more than sharing the art of music with as many people as possible. It’s incredible to think that no matter what language you speak or what your background is, we can all come together through the power of music.
I chose to make this my career because I love being independent and making my own path. As a creative, your journey is very open ended and can turn out any way you want it as long as you are willing to work to make it a reality. I love being able to share my stories via song and make a decent living doing so as well. Whether performing myself, or writing something for someone else, it brings me immense pride to hear people resonating with my stories.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician, singer, songwriter, and music producer based inbetween Southeast Iowa and Nashville, TN. I am dedicated to creating music that is engaging for those who relate to my message, and pushes boundaries in terms of sound. I am very genre fluid, and love to mix influences including anything from Johnny Cash to Seether to Prince. I let the music speak for itself instead of trying to box myself into any one category.
It has absolutely been a long road to get to where I am now, and I am far from reaching the top of where I want to be. Countless hours have gone into practicing, researching areas such as marketing and production, playing gigs, exploring areas outside of my comfort zone, all in the pursuit of growing and becoming better at my craft. This job is definitely not for everyone, but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. There are a lot of sacrifices that come with the field, but the payoff of self accomplishment makes up for everything.
I want those who discover me to relate to what I sing about. I try to convey an honest message in whatever I write. Whether positive or negative, life happens and it deserves to be explored. My greatest wish is that people can take something from what I write and feel something special.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my travels to the city. I have found several areas I love visiting. Grabbing a craft brew at Tailgate Brewing Co. is a must. I tend to hang out at the location in music row. There is an awesome strip of clubs and restaurants to visit right next to each other such as Live Oak for songwriter rounds or Tin Roof for killer bands and good drinks. Tuesday night you will most likely find me at the American Legion post 82 for Honky Tonk Tuesday. Anywhere East Nashville is a fun spot to hang out with the locals and get away from the tourist areas for awhile. A visit to lower Broadway is a must for any new visitor. Some of the best musicians and singers in the world have all converged to the same area, and this is a spot to hear several amazing up and coming artists, as well as guest appearances from local celebrities. Party Fowl is a must have for hot chicken in the city that invented it. Catching the Predators play at Bridgestone area is a favorite past time of mine. The city offers so many amazing spots for locals and tourists alike to enjoy!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are too many people that I could shoutout and attribute to where I am today in my career. First and foremost I’d like to thank my immediate family. Between my parents and grandparents, I have received so much support and so many opportunities to grow and try new things that I truly don’t think I would be doing this if it weren’t for them. I would also like to thank all my friends, as well as the bar owners, show promoters, bands, artists, festival coordinators, teachers, etc… for believing in me and allowing me to spread my wings and flourish. I could never repay my appreciation to each and everyone that has ever helped me along the way.
