We had the good fortune of connecting with Trish Reynolds-Hastings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trish, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Fortunately, the positive impact that COVID-19 had on the world was a greater acceptance of mental health therapy. It has become normalized to do the heavy lifting of therapy. The framework of trauma therapy and the narrative behind it has crept into social norms and does not hold the stigma that it once did. Navigating emotions, making intimate connections, setting healthy boundaries, reprocessing trauma, and all other benefits that come with therapy is aiding the community as a whole to interact in more connected and peaceful ways.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The road to where I am was not easy. It was through a series of events (traumas, really) that set the path for me. As many of us do, I thought I had it all figured out through my 20’s and even my 30’s, but life has a great sense of humor and I found myself starting all over again at age 40 (new state, back to grad school, new environment, new job, new everything), and this meant the ending to everything I had known = grief! What I found on my healing journey is that nontraditional approaches to therapy worked best for me. I could talk all day long; however, when I was invited to move my body (experiential work and psychodrama) and when utilizing bilateral stimulation (EMDR and Brainspotting), that I gained ground and balance at such an advanced rate. This work put me on the path to learn the skills in order to facilitate the modalities. I also offer non-traditional scheduling as I prefer to have lengthy sessions as well as 1/2 and full day intensives to dive as deep as the individual I am walking with is willing to dive and there is plenty of time to feel grounded at the end of the work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The little corner of East Nashville has a special place in my heart. The artisans, the food, the little shops, all worth the time to put on your walking shoes and hit the roads. There is an eclectic feel amongst the creators that have cornered this part of the city, and the feeling is warm and inviting.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was raised in a very traditional household where my father worked outside the home and my mother raised all 11 (yes, eleven) children. I inherited the work ethic from both parents, and even though they both have passed, their voices continue to guide me. Their values of being ethical, kind, respectful, thinking, educated, diligent and resilient humans remain as my guiding light throughout life.
