We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Wyant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracy, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Lisa Hill, founder of Senior Dog Lodge and Animal Rescue and I crossed paths and together we co-founded MoCo Mutts Rescue Center for Morgan County. There is NO County Shelter and we saw a much needed service for the amount of stray and abandoned animals in our community.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We raised funds to purchase our rescue and since opening the doors (2021) we have saved over 4000 animals. Rescue is very rewarding. We see worst case (emaciated, worms, mange, broken bones, gun shot, matted fur etc) through transport or adoption when they become healthy) We become very attached to our clients. Many are not used to human interaction, a collar, a leash, a crate or kennel. We must take baby steps to gain the trust of them and to show them that all people aren’t bad. These animals have been mistreated and let down so many times that it takes time for them to see the love we are giving them, but once we breakthrough it’s amazing. The smiles show in their eyes and their tails start to wag and the body starts to dance when they see us.

We have two employees and are looking for additional volunteers as we hire within and could use one more employee(weekends and holidays are a must)
We are opening an adoption center this summer at brushy mountain penitentiary for all the eligible MoCo Mutts looking for their furever home.
We also have a resale shop MoCo Mutts elegant clutter to offset vet costs and to help with payroll. Donations accepted (No Clothing, No Shoes, No Appliances, no books)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, supporters and families for the continued support in helping care for the beautiful animals we are helping.
