Meet Tommee Profitt | Cinematic Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommee Profitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommee, how do you think about risk?
There’s been several moments in my life where I look back and see that if I had not taken a risk, I would not be where I am today. Most of the time the risk was prompted by passion and drive… something that I wanted so bad, I knew I HAD to move forward, and would just figure it out. If I had always just gone the “safe” route… yeah, it may have avoided stress here and there. But my dreams would have never come true. And I truly believe that there are more miserable people on the planet today because of a lack of willingness to take risk!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s interesting… I think what sets me a part from other creatives, is that I don’t really listen to mainstream music that much. Everything I do these days has a cinematic twist to it… very orchestral, big movie sounding, or video game soundtrack sounding. That’s just naturally what comes out of me. I’m usually not very familiar with what is popular on the radio at any given moment. I had someone say to me one time “I think that is why your music is so genuine and unique, because it’s naturally what flows out of you without being hindered by influence.” I thought that was a pretty cool observation. We’re naturally influence by other art we see/hear, but if you don’t get that influence, what comes out will be the most TRUE to what’s inside you. I like operating this way. I sort of have my own thing that I like to do, in my own little world… but I’m happiest here. I’ve learned a long time ago that as a creative the most important thing is to be passionate and excited about what you’re making. Otherwise it can suck your soul dry super fast. I’ve been there. But if you can slowly chip away the things you like least, and only do the things you love the most, that’s the sweet spot! This is not always easy… but with hard work and tenacity, you can find ways of achieving this! It’s imperative!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I first place I take anyone that visits from out of town is Kayne Prime Steakhouse. It’s my favorite restaurant by far… so I love sharing that experience with them! There are plenty of other good places to eat… Bar Taco, Mojo’s, Wild Ginger… Jen’s Ice Cream. But no doubt, there would be a trip to the movie theater involved. I love going to the movies, and people that know me know/expect that I will include this on the itinerary! But I also like just enjoying sitting out on our 8 acres in the screened in porch (or newly added hot tub) and just hanging out, talking. As I’m getting older, I am finally learning the true beauty of relaxing and breathing deep outside. Of course we’d probably spend some time in my studio as well… not necessarily making music. But it’s sort of slowly become a Museum of Weird Things (statues, book collection, chess board from India, etc).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t have achieved my success if it wasn’t for my parents. They were 1,000% supportive of me growing up. It wasn’t just in music… it was really in ANYTHING that I was into at the moment. Any hobbies that I found myself interested in, my parents would see to it that I was able to fully engage in. Even as a little kid collecting comics, cards, figures, etc.
They always set me up to win. They would help me print homemade CD’s of my music. They would help me sell those CD’s at my school and church. They would constantly find opportunities for me to play. But none of this was forced. I had an ALL-IN passion, so they helped open doors.
Without their constant support, I would have never reached where I am today.
