Meet Tiffany Tipton | Hair Stylist & Salon Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Tipton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, both personally and in business, authenticity is everything. My business, my brand, and myself as an individual are unapologetically (well, we all need to apologize sometimes) authentic. I am in no way perfect. Business will never be and stay perfect. Environments change, vibes change, skills change, but in it all, you need to LIVE in it! Live in your truth, and people will appreciate that and feel safe in your presence and safe in your business. Be authentic.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hair artistry is more than cosmetology. Creating walking art is what it should be. I pride myself on taking a clients vision and producing work to represent that vision in the best and safest way possible. A lot of artist and creative work goes into each person and each appointment. I believe that having shared visions is essential in this business and being a good listener and good communicator is just as essential in order to share that vision with your client. My clients feel comfortable and safe in my chair and know that I’m listening. Whether you’re spilling your personal tea, telling me about your theories on aliens, or we’re discussing your hair, I’m listening and my attention is 100% with my clients. I love them all like family and my business is not JUST a business, it’s a social bond.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Every visitor needs to experience Gay Street and the Old City. Enjoy dinner at Harvest on Gay St, followed by drinks and music at Barleys in the Old City. This time of year is great because we have the Ice Bears Hockey team to enjoy, constant concerts (I’m seeing Brittany Howard at the Tennessee Theater this week)—and checkout local artists at The Pilot Light, and of course the gorgeous fall colors of our mountains are a must. Just an added tip, we have some of the most epic coffee shops in the south!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughter. This may bring tears for me, but my daughter deserves so much credit. She’s 5, almost 6, with a blazing personality, tenacity, and will. She reminds me daily to fight for what I want out of life. She loves what I do and enjoys my clients and looking at the work I create. She’s no filter, literal, and direct. She keeps me focused and doesn’t sugar coat a thing. I may work to support her, but she supports me in more ways than I can write.
