Meet Therro The Kid | Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Therro The Kid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Therro, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I honestly didn’t think that I was going to be an artist. I was always drawing but the initial idea was to be a doctor or an architect. It wasn’t until after I decided to go to an art college that I saw how fulfilling it was to be an artist compared to everything else.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I think I’m most excited about my personal projects, its a comic called the Exodus of Love. The project is centered around the question “What if Cupid didn’t know what love is” you blend that with gangs, politics, betrayal and an existentional criss about the power of free will. I’ve been developing this project for some time now so I’m pretty happy to finally be at the drawing and sequential stage. I think the thing that helps set my projects apart is that I try my best to pull from my ow life or things from life and use talk about them in the story.
I think I got to where I am professionaly by doing he things that I like doing, well that alot of prayer and it just so happened that there are other people that resonate with what I do as well. I can’t say its always been easy, honestly it is a lot of ups and downs and sometimes there are more downs than ups. The issues you deal with as an artist vary so much from money problems to problems with equipment or clients. When I see other people going through the same thing I went through I just call it a cannon event lol, thought I’ve come to learn that the only way out is through and you have to become very aware of the cycles that are taking place in life, business or anywhere else and put your best efforts into making changes so those things won’t happen again.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t think there is one person or group in particular but it’s been a series of events, people and moments that all converge to now. My earliest memory is drawing with another kid in elementary school named Michael and years later redrawing some of my cousins old anime drawings. In highschool it was a teacher named Ms. Redmond that was very encouraging and pushed me to apply for more art related opportunities. Overall I think the most pivotal moment was was when I was in college and I watched an interview of another artist named James Jean. He spoke about his experience in art school and he mentioned how there are a handful of students that go on and do something and the rest keep the school open. Hearing that really lit a fire in and me and lead me on the path that I am on now.
