We had the good fortune of connecting with The Frst and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Thanks for having me here! Really just deciding to ‘go for it’ and starting The Frst. I worked behind the scenes in music for years, but eventually I realized I had to work towards what I specifically wanted, which was being an artist. Working hard in one area doesn’t necessarily translate to another area and so I had to quit my other projects and go all in on The Frst.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked in a lot of areas in music before The Frst; I was a touring musician, session musician, songwriter, and producer at different points. I wanted to start something where I could combine all of those together. It definitely wasn’t easy, but then again nothing worthwhile ever is. There was a lot of physical challenges, like having surgery on my ear a couple times that added some extra layers of difficulty. But ultimately it always comes back to how bad do you want it. And for me, not making music wasn’t an option, it’s something I absolutely have to do every single day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would immediately steer them AWAY from Broadway, which is exactly where every tourist wants to go! (Laughs) I’d take them to Sip Cafe on the east side for some coffee, Koi Sushi for lunch, then later on maybe catch a show at one of the millions of venues in Nashville- Basement East, Eastside Bowl, or even The Cobra.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely The Frst Lady (Laura). She’s my other half behind the scenes, filming videos, creating content, playing bass and helping with pretty much everything that goes into this project. I’m very thankful for her!
