Meet Teron Smith | DJ & Clothing Brand Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Teron Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
High End Habits started as a vision between me and my best friend Cam, who I met in college. We were both passionate about growth, mindset, and the idea of building something meaningful — something that reflected who we are and where we’re headed. Our late-night conversations often revolved around entrepreneurship, personal development, and how our daily habits shaped our future. Eventually, we realized we didn’t just want to talk about it — we wanted to create something that embodied it.
That’s when the idea for High End Habits was born. It wasn’t just about clothes — it was about a lifestyle, a mindset, and a message. We believed in the power of daily discipline, ambition, and self-respect. And we wanted to build a brand that would represent those values — something people could wear and feel empowered by.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey as a DJ actually started during the COVID pandemic. Like a lot of people, I found myself with more time and space to reflect — and I turned to music as a way to stay grounded, creative, and connected. What started as a way to cope quickly turned into a calling. I fell in love with the energy of curating sound, creating experiences, and connecting with people — even if at first it was just through a screen.
From those early livestreams and bedroom sets, I started investing time into learning the craft — not just technically, but emotionally. I paid attention to how different sounds could shift moods, set vibes, and bring people together. That’s when I realized: I wasn’t just DJing — I was storytelling through music.
What sets me apart is that I see DJing as more than a playlist. It’s an intentional experience — a blend of energy, mood, and message. I aim to make people feel something every time I step behind the decks. Whether it’s a high-energy Darty set, a nighttime vibe, or a more curated event, I treat every set like it matters — because it does.
It definitely wasn’t easy getting to this point. I’ve dealt with self-doubt, limited resources, and trying to make a name in a space that can feel saturated. But I kept showing up, stayed authentic, and let my growth speak for itself. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that consistency beats everything. Talent matters, but so does discipline, professionalism, and how you treat people in the process.
Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come — from starting during a global pandemic to now having my own live event (High End Frequencies), growing my brand (High End Habits), and continuing to evolve as an artist and entrepreneur.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my story, it’s this: I didn’t wait for permission or perfect conditions. I just started — and I kept going. My brand is about elevation — mentally, musically, and spiritually. Everything I do — whether through music or fashion — is meant to inspire people to level up and live with intention.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Ultimate Week in the City – My Best Friend Edition
If my best friend came to visit, I’m making sure they get the real experience — a week that blends the best of food, culture, music, and good vibes. Here’s how we’re doing it:
Day 1 – Arrival & Kickback Vibes
• Lunch: Hit up Hawkers Asian Street Food for bold flavors and street-style eats — think Korean wings, baos, and drunken noodles.
• Evening: Chill out with drinks at Bar Sovereign or The Fox Bar — something lowkey to ease in.
• Night: Back to the crib or Airbnb for a curated vibe session — I’ll spin a quick set, crack open a bottle, and catch up.
⸻
Day 2 – Art, Culture & Nightlife
• Daytime: Explore The Frist Art Museum or take a stroll through Centennial Park and catch the Parthenon replica.
• Lunch: Slim & Husky’s — Black-owned, fire pizza, and an all-around vibe.
• Evening: Pre-game at L.A. Jackson rooftop for drinks + views.
• Night: Head to Minerva Nightclub — high energy, dope crowd, and perfect if we’re trying to turn up and dance.
⸻
Day 3 – Creative Day
• Daytime: Studio session or creative workshop — we’ll hit Fort Houston or a local recording space to cook something up.
• Lunch: Quick bite at Hattie B’s or Edley’s BBQ.
• Evening: Do a private DJ set or livestream something under the High End Frequencies banner. Small group, intimate vibes.
• Night: Hit Skye Lounge for a grown, upscale vibe.
⸻
Day 4 – Wrap Up in Style
• Brunch: The JAR — soul food with flavor and vibes. It’s a must before heading out.
• Afternoon: Last-minute shopping or record hunting at Grimey’s.
• Night: Chill rooftop session — maybe invite a few friends over, recap the week, and close it out with a sunset toast.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely — I truly believe that no success story is ever written alone. I want to dedicate my shoutout to the people who’ve supported me, believed in me, and poured into me throughout this journey.
First and foremost, my girlfriend — her love, patience, and encouragement have kept me grounded and focused, even on the toughest days. She’s been my sounding board, my peace, and my push all in one. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in life and business.
Next, my grandparents — their wisdom, values, and sacrifices are a big part of the foundation I stand on today. They taught me the importance of hard work, staying true to your word, and moving with integrity. I carry that with me every day.
And of course, I’ve got to give a major shoutout to my four best friends: Cam, Flight, DeeDee, and Yasmine. Cam and I started High End Habits together back in college — and that bond, that vision we shared, is still alive in everything we create. Flight, DeeDee, and Yasmine have all played different roles in my life — motivators, real ones who keep me accountable, and people who never let me forget my potential. I’m lucky to have a circle that keeps it solid.
I’m where I am today because of the love, energy, and belief these people poured into me. So this shoutout goes to them — thank you for being part of the story.
