We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Landrum Caswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teresa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am solution driven. I noticed a problem and I begin to do the research to see how I can provide a solution to the problem. Driver Education was taken out of schools in TN, as a result, we see how it has affected the drivers on the roads. I love challenges so I stepped up to the challenge to start a driving school in the Raleigh Frayser community because that is what we needed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Caswell Group Driving School offers teen and adult driver education classes, in addition to driver improvement classes. We are approved with the State of Tennessee as Driver Training Testing Program and with the Department of Safety to offer driver improvement classes.

I built this business from the ground. I left my full time job at the University of Memphis in 2021 and I have been working my business full time ever since. I truly love what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Bass Pro Shop. I love that place. My favorite place to eat is Stoney River in Germantown, TN.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank, not enough room, but I do thank you my husband and children for allowing me to spend so much time away from home starting the business and also maintaining the business.

I am thankful for my best friend Sandy Gunatharp who loaned me the money to start the business. I am thankful for all the wonderful people at The University of Memphis who I learned so many great skills, administration and leadership skills, that I use in my business every day.

I am thankful for my team, who without them, we would not be as successful as we are.

But most of all, I am thankful for my partner, the all powerful and all mighty who provides, protects, and leads me on a daily basis.
