We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I really think artistic things are a part of my DNA. It sounds a little silly, but on all sides of my family there different types of creatives that have had the ability to express themselves in really beautiful ways. So seeing that passion and beauty coupled with my father’s love for the performing arts all my life, it just really seemed like a career in the creative arts space was just inevitable. The funny thing is that my parents were completely against it! Now they are my biggest cheerleaders but it took a couple of “cool” bookings to get them on board and behind my dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my career is 1. It’s not about you and 2. Everything always works out better than expected. The first lesson punched me in the face when I realized that hardly ever is anything in the creative industry is personal. That thought led to a major mental chillax state that really allowed me to develop some great friendships. Because if it’s not about you, the person going for the same job is not your enemy, they are just like you. If it’s not about you, the Gig is about what a group of people decide based off their vision-not you. If it’s not about you, then you can stop being so self-focused and see so many other beautiful things and people around you-not be in your head all day. Just make sure you do the work and everything will work out as it should-or better than expected….
When I say everything always works out better than expected-I don’t me you bum around all day, go into an audition with no prep work and get the job paying $2billion. No. If you do your best with what you have/what you know, try to be the best person you can be, keep a positive mindset, and never look to harm/hinder others, things will inevitably work out much better than expected. It may take a while to see but when you look back you will notice how that rejection that really had you down actually freed you to audition for something better or meet the love of your life! That’s what I keep seeing in my own life. Every rejection is simply a redirection. If you keep that mindset, you will see so much good in your life and see really beautiful things come about!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Allen Williamson has been one of my biggest cheerleaders and supporters of my whole acting journey and has been incredibly supportive of my other creative ventures. He’s one of those guys that really is down to be a friend to anyone and is really down to earth.
