Meet Taylor Hungerford | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Hungerford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Well in all honesty, I had no other choice. Being a creative is who I am. It’s what I breathe. I have a band in which I pursue gigs and such but graphic design, filmography and photography pay the bills – and I love them all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In many ways, my art is all a part of storytelling. Whether you take a picture, cut a movie or make a poster, the intent is to make someone feel something. Even in a poster, you can emote a feeling or a vibe about an event. I would say what makes my art unique is its ability to to weave the old with the new. All my stuff looks like it came from a former time, yet it is current.
My trajectory to where I am today was very natural. I approached bands to do short documentaries, that led me to getting hired for shows, then music videos. Same with posters and graphic design.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way it’s they’re called “gifts” because they’re meant to be given away. You make movies, share it with others. Art and giving contribute to community, and community creates a scene. When you have those, you have folks who support you and you do the same in return. So make great art as it elevates everyone around you – and try to help folks when you can. Your world will blossom.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is a city of many faces, I primarily occupy the western one. But I also love our art and culture outside of that. I’d take folks to the Getty as well as the Getty Villa, also the Broad in Downtown. For music, on Tuesdays we’d go to Club TeeGee or Bigfoot East, Wednesday we’d hit my country night Honky Tonk Saloon at The Maui Sugarmill Saloon, Thursday and Friday we’d probably go to Desert 5 and the Silverlake Lounge, Saturday we’d go to The Cowboy Palace and on Sunday we’d go to Grand Ol’ Echo at The Echo. The people are nice, the music is good and the drinks are strong and cheap. Everybody wins.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well all my fellow artists here in Los Angeles. Without them, I wouldn’t have any work nor would I have this amazing scene to be a part of.
