Meet (TAMI) Tami Jones Andrews | Top International Charted Billboard and Music Week UK recording artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with (TAMI) Tami Jones Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi (TAMI) Tami, how do you think about risk?
The word risk itself bodes uncertainty and worry. I guess I don’t think about risk as much as I do choices. Even as a child I was compelled to weigh my choices. When I was riding my bike or playing Neighborhood games, do I jump over that curb with a skateboard, do I go down the hill fast? Do I try out for basketball? Do I audition for the choir or theatre? I was singing before I was talking my mother said so the arts just came very naturally for me, and I also was an athletic child. As a child navigating these things were easy decisions. Do I move to Nashville as a single mom and try to make it professionally? Then go live in Asia and sing jazz and blues? I guess it sounds quite risky but I felt comfortable with the choices I made and did I ever learn beautiful things along the way!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve said all along that you never know where the road of life will take you. My journey has been amazing, hard, unexpected, thrilling, mind boggling, humbling, rewarding and more.
As a girl growing up n Oklahoma I knew I wanted to sing and perform. What I didn’t know was where I would go to do it? My mom mentioned Nashville as a place for talent. I thought about NYC for a minute then went my on my way to Nashville with my 18 month old son on my hip.
I worked hard as a single mom working during the day and singing demos for songwriters late in the day.
Eventually signed a deal with Sony Nashville as a recording artist. The deal fell through because of changes in label heads and I started singing soul blues and jazz that I grew up listening to from my father’s record collection. Had a great R&B mentor in Nashville that taught me authentic rhythm and blues sounds and a year later we were living full time in Tianjin China where I was singing jazz full time at swanky jazz rooms in and around Beijing.
My husband and I would travel to Thailand on vacation from China and we fell in love with the culture and people, music and I found blues club ion a beautiful tropical island 5 hours southwest of Bangkok. We started splitting our time from Nashville to Thailand for the last 13 years. Had a wonderful opportunity to record my debut album in Nashville with friends from Thailand and the Nashville A-team produced by legend Bobby Braddock. That album produced a top billboard dance record for 12 weeks in the US and UK
I’ve been touring and recording back and forth from Thailand to USA to UK ever since. What a ride that I am very very thankful for and I never expected it to happen this way. 🙂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Lep and family! Always supportive and keeping me thankful for them everyday! My team that is so talented and hard working! Always kind and inspiring
From producers, musicians to publicity and management. Dream team!
Love you all!
