We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Summer, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up I was always doing something creative. Whether it was doing crafts with my mom or playing dress up in her closet, putting together the most outrageous outfit combinations, I was constantly letting my creativity flow. My parents always encouraged me to be creative and do whatever makes me happy so I don’t think going down a creative career path was really a big surprise to anyone haha. As I grew older and began to think about college and what I wanted to do for a career, the usual business, nursing, or English options didn’t sound very appealing to me. I wanted something that I would love doing every single day. Something that I was passionate about and wouldn’t regret going into. Thankfully, I can say I definitely don’t regret choosing a creative path! If I hadn’t gone with my gut and passion then I wouldn’t have been able to experience all of the amazing opportunities I’ve been given and for that I am extremely grateful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a student at Belmont University as well as a part time employee in retail and in fitness, an intern in wholesale markets, and lastly a campus manager for a t-shirt brand at Belmont. I have a full plate of many different aspirations because I believe in order to really know what I want to do with my life, I need to try it all. Balancing all of this with school can definitely get difficult at times but having all of these jobs and positions –as well as being a full time student– shows my determination and hard work which are two very big things that I believe set me apart from others. Some of the work I’m most proud of would include my styling photoshoot and my t-shirt design that was selected to be debuted in the Bruin Shop at my school. My styling shoot was inspired by the 1970’s retro vibe and it was so much fun working on different styling techniques, poses, and also collaborating with a photographer which isn’t like anything I’ve done before. The t-shirt I created for Belmont was so fun to create and was apart of their Vintage Varsity fall 2024 collection. When I’m passionate about something, there’s absolutely nothing that can stop me so while I may be taking on a million and one different roles, I also love that I’m able to do it. Through these things, I’m most excited to use the skills and experiences I’ve gained to be the best possible version of myself and succeed in my career. Whether I end up going into visual merchandising, styling, or wholesale markets, I know that I’ll be prepared for whatever comes next. While it hasn’t been the easiest journey, it’s been so beneficial to me. Even through the hardest days, I’ve learned that I have to keep my head up and keep a positive attitude. You never know what is to come in the future and if you give up the first second something gets hard, they’re may never be any going back. If there’s one thing you should know about my brand/story it’s that I believe I am capable of anything if I put my mind to it. While that may sound cliche, I really do believe that’s the key to success. I wouldn’t be able to balance all that I do and want to do if I didn’t have the push and determination for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Nashville for a week, I’d make sure they had the best time experiencing my favorite spots and discovering new ones together. We’d start with coffee at Honest Coffee Roasters before strolling through Centennial Park to take in the scenery. For dinner, we’d head to Sadie’s for some greek food, then kick off the trip with drinks at Rosemary and Beauty Queen. The next day, we’d go shopping at Green Hills Mall, stopping for brunch at Milk & Honey, and later have tacos and margaritas at Bar Taco before ending the night at Coral Club. A full day of thrifting and exploring 12 South would follow, checking out Anaconda Vintage, then catching live music at The Bluebird Café. Midweek, we’d hike Radnor Lake State Park, visit the Frist Art Museum, and enjoy a light dinner at Culture & Co. before catching a late night movie. The trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Nashville Farmers’ Market, a casual dinner at Thai Phooket, and a then fun night out on broadway. For one of the highlights, we’d catch a concert at Ascend Amphitheater, soaking in the energy of live music before wrapping up the night with a final drink at Rosemary and Beauty Queen. On the last day, we’d have a farewell brunch at First Watch, reminiscing about the trip before heading to the airport. This mix of my go-to spots and exciting new experiences would make for an unforgettable week in Nashville!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, I would have to say my mom and my sister! My family has always been super important to me and when it comes to my successes, I owe it all to them for their constant support and inspiration. I look up to the both of them and without either of them, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with the art of fashion and decided to try and make a career out of it! They’re names are Jennifer Spuryer and Kenzie Scott.
