We had the good fortune of connecting with Step Allmond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Step, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a former athlete it was very rare to find a trainer, mentor or someone to film a sports game. Upon starting my business I made it a priority to create a group where athletes can connect to for specific needs. As I grew older and started to be hands on with my younger sister in her athletic career I realized how much the game and the world around sports had evolved. I remembered the things that I wish I could have gotten in my time of play and made it my business to make sure that my younger sister didn’t go without. So I created a business for athletes to train, mentor and provide media exposure.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The name of my business is called SportsLife United. Our mission is to serve the youth and young adults student-athlete through the overcoming of adversity, strength and conditioning, media exposure and mentorship. What sets us apart from others is that we are a faith and family based organization. We take pride in having a personal relationship with every person that comes through our program. We got where we are today by staying consistent with serving athletes one to many. It is an everyday battle to work on this business, we continue to find ways to improve ourselves all while inspiring others but we understand the primary goal is to make sure that every student athlete leaves with more than they came with upon joining our program.

Some lessons I learned on this journey were the importance of a team and having great individuals around you to help achieve that common goal. It is easy to feel that you have to do everything yourself but you can only go so far. Find others that are professionals at what they do and make the investment in them and they will in you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend to come down and visit we would go to the gym for an early morning workout, go to a local restaurant for post workout meal, visit the National Civil Rights Museum, visit Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, local restaurant for lunch, visit the mall/ thrift shop, home for a nap, attend NBA Grizzlies game, restaurant on Beale Street for food, music and vibes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my parents for instilling great values in me to help mold me into the man I am today. I can’t forget about my siblings, “The A Team” who have always supported me. I would also like to shout out to all of the parents and coaches who have entrusted me to train and mentor their student-athletes.

And most importantly I would like to give a special shout out to my fiance Cobi, for being there for me and our beautiful daughter and being the rock of our family.
