Meet Stelle Amor | Soulternative Siren

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stelle Amor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stelle, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
My home definitely reflects what brings me joy; I live with my sweet rescue pitty Luci Lou, and my love and partner Dr. Dave! It’s filled with lots of art, musical gear, plants, and flowers(I always joke I have a flower problem… there’s never enough- dried, fresh the more the merrier!) Creating and cuddling are my favorite ways to spend my time. The why…Ultimately I think connection is what I crave most and the things that make me happy are just ways to connect!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ohh life is tragically beautiful and hard, that’s just the truth of it. My logo, designed by the amazing artist Mackenzie Steele, is a graphic of a skull with flowers growing out of it, which represents the beauty you can grow from darkness…thats what I try to do everyday when I create. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have music to express myself. I feel like I’m still settling back into Nashville after a small hiatus caring for my father through his lost battle with Pancreatic Cancer in 2023.It’s honestly taking me longer than I thought to fully dive back into the scene. I’m happy to say despite not playing as many shows, the recording and releasing of music has been flowing, especially with my band Of A Generation, which is me and Jon Worthy. We put out 5 singles this past year, all DIY and independent. It has been a lot of work to figure out how to be a jack of so many trades, but I feel so grateful living in Nashville and having so many magical people to collaborate and grow with.
I know I mentioned that my home really reflects what brings me joy and it’s truly magical because I live in a recording studio, so my environment is catered for creativity, and that’s such a blessing!! I’m excited to be finishing up two new singles for my solo project, which is also an independent DIY project; everything was recorded at our home studio. The singles are going to be released later this Spring/Summer! Dr. Dave and I have been working hard with some of Nashville’s finest creatives to bring it all to life. Few shout outs to Jesse Thompson, Tony Zavitson, and Kendra Chantelle. We actually just had a woodwind recording session with Nathan Mcleod. He played flute, tenor sax, and bari sax. We recorded all his parts on the ribbon microphone he designed and hand made, the N8-5. Give his company @McleodMusicCraft a follow for great boutique ribbon mics and other products! I took videos and pictures of the session so you can actually see the mic below. It sounds amazing and it was so much fun to have horns vibrating in the studio! His magic has really taken the recording to the next level and I can NOT WAIT to share these new songs!!!
Soulternative is how I’ve described my music for almost a decade now and it still rings true. The latest records I’ve been making really hit it on the head… combining gospel and soul rock elements and drenching them with ethereal alternative vibes. I’ve gotten where I am by never giving up, pushing through the traumas and hardships using them as fuel to create more. The biggest shout out to Dr. Dave, he is not only my music partner helping me record and create everything but also my life partner helping me navigate this mad world. I get to live my dreams creating with the love of my life and my heart is always overwhelmed with gratitude when I think about how lucky I got finding someone to share this crazy journey and existence with. Loving and creating is how I’ve been able to navigate life’s tragedies and the more I’ve been through the more it reinforces my belief that love and art are the best ingredients to heal and grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For breakfast I’m all about bagels so we would have to go to Proper Bagel. They have the best cream cheese and aren’t afraid to load it on. I love cruising around and driving down Music Row is always fun. I love to share with people where the magic has happened. While in the area it’s always nice to hit up the Gulch for some shopping, and yummy eats and drinks! Saint Anejo has killer margaritas and a great atmosphere so I like to post up there for a bit to get hydrated. For dinner though it’s nice to also have a show and Sambuca is wonderful! After that the vibe is already set for Jazz so off to Rudys for the rest of the night to see some of the best players period. While I love to stay on the East Side, if I’m venturing out West the Parthenon is a must see! That park is great for picnics and enjoying a book. The Southern is a great place for dinner, I’ve never had a bad meal there and it’s downtown in all the action. The Black Rabbit has retro vibes and great performers. I’ve always loved the soulstress Lydia Britton who performs there! If friends are in town you have to have a bounce around Broadway day to hear all the amazing local performers… seriously too many good names to list. It would be nice to be at the Pedestrian bridge by sunset for a beautiful photo opp. Skulls is another must for dinner because of the amazing food! Plus they put on great shows and the atmosphere is historic! East Nashville has the best vibes though, if you need away from the chaos of downtown but still wanna have fun, keep it chill on the East Side! Infinite bars and good food spots! There’s also Shelby Park, which I still haven’t seen all of, and I’ve been exploring for a decade! The Treehouse is definitely one of my favorite spots for dinner on the East Side, so delicious! Then there’s one of my favorite music venues on the same street, The 5 Spot, which always has great music playing, mostly local acts and Djs! Dukes is also around the corner for a late night sandwich and I confess I love a good sandwich! I could honestly stay in the East Side forever, but Franklin is another cool place to see. They have such a cute downtown area! A real gem that can be found in Donelson is Mirror Mirror which acts as a record shop, music venue, rock and roll clothing boutique, and now Wedding Chapel! Nashville is definitely a place to see as much music as possible and my favorite venues that are a must hit are The Ryman, The Bluebird Cafe, and Ascend Amphitheater!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to Mary Rodgers, my music mentor and teacher! When I first started making music and doing shows in Nashville I hyper focused on the energy aspect and left my talented bandmates to make the music spot on. As I’ve shifted my focus more towards playing instruments myself and producing I really realized how much I needed to learn to be more effective and efficient in studio flow. The language of music is a complex rabbit hole and it’s been nice to have someone to help guide me through as I grow my knowledge and understanding. The funny thing about music is you can make it and make it beautifully without knowing much about what you’re doing. I will say the more I learn it definitely helps in consistency, communication and creation. I highly recommend Mary as a piano teacher for students of all ages. She is so patient and caters to each student’s needs as we all learn differently!!!
