We had the good fortune of connecting with Sondra King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sondra, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Great question. Overcoming fear, determination, and the death of my Father. It was an urgency to move forward from the failure of not knowing what was next. Faith was another key factor. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith, even when you don’t see or feel it. I held on to the memories of what I loved to do, and what my father loved as well. He loved gardening and growing his own food. Smoothies, along with lifestyle changes, and exercise changed my life. What you eat, drink, and put into your body is your lifeline. I learned that. I lived it. So I knew I had to share my love of nutrition, my smoothies, my health journey, and the knowledge both my parents instilled in me. I had to trust myself and realize that someone else needed what I had to offer. We all need hope, we all need better health, and we all need some inspiration along the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Yes. I am the Founder and Owner of K&B’s Smooth Nutrition. I’m most proud of myself for fulfilling my dream, even when the odds were against me. I stuck to my vision. It was not easy, and you work twice as hard when you’re working for yourself. You have to place yourself in a position to keep grinding and proving that your brand is worth the longterm investment. I overcame my challenges by facing my fears. Sometimes you have to be uncomfortable in order to become comfortable. I’ve learned that you have to stay true to yourself, your product, your beliefs, your integrity, and your williness to learn, grow, and evolve. You also need to network and support other entreprenuers/businesses. I want the world to know K&B’s by its authenticity and nutritional values. I literally started my business in the darkess moment of my life. The death of my Father. He stood for truth/honesty, and he absolutely loved gardening and believed in planting your own food, fruits, and vegetables. K&B’s Smooth Nutrition is also named after myself and my father. The majority of my smoothie names are named after my family/children.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them Midtown/Downtown. There are tons of local outdoor dining areas with beautiful scenary and fantastic food. Lafayette’s has really good food with live music, with a relaxing environment for friends or family to hang out.  There’s always something to see and do along the way.  I would suggest a guided riverboat tour on the beautiful Mississippi River for some sightseeing. Water is so very therapeutic and the river view is stunning.  The Memphis Zoo is always fun. I love the animals, the food, rides, and the exhibits. It’s very kid/family friendly. I would also take them to Shelby Farms Park for some nature. I love bike riding, walking, and jogging. There are walking trails, bike trials, restaurants, fishing and picnic spots, canoeing, kayaking, ziplines, horseback riding, and it’s pet friendly. Shelby Farms also has shopping spots. I could go there everyday. It’s absolutely beautiful, and there’s something to do for everyone and for all ages to enjoy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first like to dedicate the support from my parents and family. They saw my vision and encouraged me to pursue what I loved to do. I will forever be grateful to Cyclebar and Stretchlab for giving me my first opportunity to do a pop-up event. Their support was unwavering and continues to be to this day.

Mind, Body, Haus yoga studio was the first business to extend their kindness and allow me the chance to have my smoothies stocked and sold at their location.

The Memphis Medical District provided me with mentorship, entrepreneurial tools/resources, business networking, and access to events that helped me gain recognition and the growth of my business success.

Sundara Wellness Center gave me my first contract. They support my business, along with other local small businesses that offer holistic health and wellness. I am truly fortunate to be partnered with so many well know businesses that help make K&B’s Smooth Nutrition what it is today.
