Meet Sofia Hill | Graphic Designer & Solopreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sofia, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Two habits that have helped me succeed are implementing a morning routine and journaling. My morning routine has seriously paved the way for me to feel like I have my life together even during the times that I feel like I don’t. I work from home and while it has allowed me so much flexibility, I still need some structure and that is where my morning routine fits in. I treat it like I’m going to the office, so I get dressed (even if it’s just a sweat suit) I do my skincare routine and eat breakfast. I think it gives my brain the time to wake up and be ready to start working for the day. I definitely notice a difference when I do my routine vs. when I don’t. The days that I don’t, I feel a bit more sluggish. Journaling is the second habit that I have implemented. It allows me to recenter on my goals specifically for my business. I believe in the power of manifestation and I wholeheartedly believe that you NEED to write those manifestations down on a piece of paper. I take my time journaling as a way to dream and come up with my “wildest” goals and over time my journaling becomes into forming actualized steps that I can take to make those visions a possibility. I definitely have a mental to-do list floating in my head at all times, but I think putting that to-do list on paper makes it feel more real. It’s not set in stone by any means, but you can see the words and slowly and even subconsciously you start trying to put the puzzle pieces together to make that come to life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am brand and web designer based in Nashville, TN. I think my abilities to be adaptable and to listen set me a part from others. With each project, I try to ensure that my clients come away feeling like I understand not only their business, but also them as individuals and how they fit into their business. That type of relationship building has taken awhile to fine tune, but each time I flex that muscle I feel more and more comfortable. I remember my first client conversation and how nervous I was to mess up or being afraid that I didn’t come across in the “right” way. I used to have mock conversations with my now fiancé to prepare for each client call so that I could feel like I was going t say the “right” thing. I keep putting “right” in quotations marks because there is genuinely no right way to do anything. There a probably more efficient ways to do things, but no necessarily “right.” I think that is one of the biggest I’ve learned thus far. I am always going to be fine-tuning my processes and my business in general. My current processes feel “right” to me, but in 6 months they may change and evolve and that is totally OKAY. That is the part of being adaptable not only with your clients, but also within your business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would make this an eating trip. Nashville has some of the best food and I truly think you can eat your way through the city. I would drive them around the entirety of the city to allow them to get a lay of the land and show them some of my favorite neighborhoods: Germantown, East Nashville, Bellevue. I would definitely spend a day with them on Broadway listening to live music and eating good food. I would also take them outside of the city to go visit Leiper’s fork and Franklin, TN so they can see more of what Nashville has to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This may be a bit cliche, but the two “people” I credit to my success are my fiancé and my clients. We will start with my fiancé. He has truly been a guiding light and someone that keeps me grounded. Running a business can be extremely challenging and he helps me recenter when I feel like things are spiraling. He reminds me to slow down and appreciate the spot that I’m in even when it is uncomfortable. Even if you don’t have a partner to talk to about your business, if you can find a friend or a mentor that you can confide in, I would definitely encourage you to find someone to talk to. Starting and running your own business is not an easy task to do alone.
The second “person” that I credit my success to are my clients. I don’t necessarily mean monetarily, I more so mean the connections and relationship building I have done with my clients. I LOVE talking and communicating with my clients because a lot of them are solopreneurs as well or are starting to scale their business and I admire them for taking the leap to do so.
