We had the good fortune of connecting with Slim McGraw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Slim, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
You have to always keep going. In the dj business there are so many highs and lows. People only see my life on social media so it looks really perfect. People don’t know how many times you were told no to finally get a yes. You have to keep grinding. You never know what the next day brings. Some things are just out of your control. Be patient and never give up!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well being a country DJ kind of sets me apart from other djs. Other djs thought I was crazy when I first started playing country back in 2009 at Dale Earnhardt’s Whisky River. I kept learning and playing more and more. People started to understand when Dipole put out a couple Country songs a few years later. There are also challenges where people think I only play Country now. haha. I play all genres. Really depends not the event. When I first started doing I loved Electronic music. Now it’s full circle. I get to mix Country & Electronic dance music. I am in heaven.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first off since I work at concerts, festival & nightclubs…..this are off the list. haha. Places to eat for me would be Wendell Smith or Swett’s. I like the Mom & Pops meat and three spots. To drink I would go low key Red Door. It’s a good dive bar. There are also some good antique stores. Country Music Hall of fame is always a good time.. But my favorite past time is golf. So I would take them to Heritage golf course for a round. Nice greens!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutouts are easy for djs…haha. First I would like to give a shoutout to my Family, my parents & my daughter for always supporting me throughout the years. I have worked a lot of weekends. Big shoutout to Bob Durkin, Brad Beltrondo & the gang for all the support in the nightclub days and now in the Country festival days. These guys have always always put me on top notch events. They are like family. This next guy is like a brother to me. We have been friends for over 20 years. My man Dee Jay Silver. The great times we have had are priceless. He has helped me a lot in my dj career and I can’t thank him enough. To my friends Allison, Kenny and everyone on the Country Thunder teams. Y’all are the best! Thank you to Brian, Jenna, Logan, Stuart and the whole Nascar family for a great year. My man Joe at Louie’s Backyard. Shoutout to Billboards & Amazon Music. I would also like to thank Grant, Ryan & Donnie at the TC Group for all the Broadway memories. Anybody who has helped me…THANK YOU! I love you all and I can’t wait to make more memories with each and everyone of ya’ll.
