We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherita Bratcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherita, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
In my line of work, the hardest decision I had to make was firing my first employee I truly cared about. My goodness it triggered my anxiety, I lost sleep, and I felt guilty. Managing adults was harder than I expected and I quickly had to learn to take my personal feelings out of my business. It was truly a difficult transition.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Skin By Donna Wax Studios and we not only specialize in waxing but healthy SKIN is a big deal to us! We stand out by educating our customers on BAREology (the study of smooth, hair free, and healthy skin). I coined the phrase in 2022 and continue to base my business on the term. I’m most excited about being a black woman and business owner! I want to show my peers that you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you sign hard. I come from a city with a high crime rate and we usually have a bad rep but I wanted to set the standard for young black girls, showing them that your environment nor your current circumstance has to distract your future! You can do anything and be anything! I got where I am today with consistency and putting in the WORK! I had no plan B, it was either this works or it works! Being an entrepreneur has been the most challenging yet rewarding thing I’ve ever done, I’ve learned so much about myself and people around me! It has taught me boundaries, it’s taught me emotional intelligence, and organization. In this business I was forced to learn from my mistakes and move strategically! I want people to know that today you may be in an era of your life where things may seem like that can’t get any better BUT THEY CAN and they will! You can turn your life around right now if that’s what you want! I Was once a young woman lost in this huge world but with the God I serve I can do all things and I can conquer any difficulty!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from memphis and we loveeeeee good comfort food! Being that we have the best wings in the world, first stop would be 901 Wings for some honey hot chicken wings and fries! We most definitely would have to see Ja Morant at a grizzles game. We’d most definitely visit a few museums like Stax museum and the national civil rights museum. I love a nice lounge for brunch so Ashtar Garden is a hot spot with a beautiful atmosphere! End the weekend at District XII with my guy Tony Smith for some night light fun!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout Kei the owner of Pretty Girls get waxed! She inspired me as an esthetician from early on in her career and she was the brown girl I knew to open a waxing salon! I was truly inspired and it motivated me to take that leap of faith and open my first brick and mortar. All while I’ve been in business she has been more than supportive and that has meant a lot to me.
