We had the good fortune of connecting with Scarlet Paolicchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scarlet, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is my willingness to keep learning and keep adapting. In this digital age, things change so fast! Social media platforms come and go. Blogging is all the rage and or something from yesterday. As it all changes and grows, I try to keep pace with it. Learning, adapting, and stretching in new directions. I moved a lot when I was growing up so I am fairly comfortable having to make new friends and push myself beyond my comfort zone. I am always curious about how I can do things better and what I can learn from others. I always want to proud of the work I create and I want to make sure it is relevant and helpful to my audience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started blogging 15 years ago. When you first start out, you are putting forth all the effort and never really knowing if others will see it. For me, overcoming the thoughts of will it be worth the effort? Will I succeed? Those were challenging hurdles but I just decided to go for it and give myself a chance.

I have loved blogging as a creative outlet to have something that I was making and doing to talk about with others. Being a good mom is what I am most proud of but when other people asked what I do, it was nice to be able to say I am a blogger. Even though being a stay at home mom is a full time job and one that I respect immensely, I felt conversations dead-ended there unless I was talking to another stay-at-home mom who really got me. Blogging helped connect me with other moms as well and I enjoyed that sense of community. I came to enjoy sharing family resources on my blog to create a better family life. Whether it is parenting tips from experts, or fun crafts to make with your kids, or great family dinner ideas, it is a very rewarding experience to hit publish and have people comment on or share your work.

I have had some amazing opportunities thanks to blogging. I found myself in all kind of unexpected places- behind the scenes filming of Flicka (https://familyfocusblog.com/behind-the-scenes-of-flicka-3-movie-filming/), driving a Ford Explorer from Vancouver to Kamloops (https://familyfocusblog.com/scenic-drive-from-vancouver-to-kamloops-british-columbia/), and at DreamWorks Animation Studio getting to try recording the voice of Poppy (https://familyfocusblog.com/dreamworks-trolls-the-beat-goes-on/.

The pandemic threw a big monkey wrench into all the cool travel adventures I had been doing. This gave me time to settle back into my writing and work on all the business elements of blogging like making sure you have a good host, working on your website timing, mobile responsiveness, and search engine optimization. There is always something new and changing in the social media aspect of the business as well so there are always new challenges there.

I think sticking to it is what sets me apart as a mom blogger. A lot of sites come and go but I just keep working on it. That is the thing in life. No matter what twists life throws at me, I take it one day at a time, and keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, don’t laugh, but I do happen to have a blog with all great things to do in Nashville with family https://familyfocusblog.com/fall-family-activities-in-the-nashville-area/
Now, if it was someone without children, I would add in a trip downtown to enjoy the live music and dancing on Broadway.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, I have to say that I never envisioned myself as a writer or an entrepreneur. I was able to pursue this only because my husband provided for our family and allowed me to be a stay at home mom to raise our children. Then while the kids were napping, I started blogging and doing social media it has grown from there. My husband definitely deserves a little credit and recognition in my story because he truly is my partner. I couldn’t have had the opportunity or energy to start my blog without him and more importantly I couldn’t have raised my family in the way we both felt was a priority if it wasn’t for him. I found blogging because it was a great way for me to have a creative business outlet around my children’s schedules.
