We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savannah, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One important lesson my business has taught me is that failure is absolutely necessary. It’s a saying I always go by, “if you’ve never experienced a rainy day how do you know what a sunny day is?” If you have always been given everything you wanted, never had to work hard for anything, or never dealt with any real-life obstacles you wouldn’t understand how to handle pressure or difficult moments. That’s why I feel like failure is key, one set back can have you prepared for a major comeback. Most of the time, people learn better from failing rather than succeeding due to having to see where we need to grow and what does & doesn’t work for us. You gain more insight on how to handle future steps and guide others who may be struggling with an issue you’ve already dealt with.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own a small skin care business in the Louisville, Ky area, Savannah’s Sweet Spa. I am an e-commerce business and I specialize in making cosmetic products like whipped body butters, soaps, and body scrubs. Being an entrepreneur is not easy! This has been such a journey for me, but I absolutely love the road my business has taken me down. The places I go, the people I get to meet, and the experiences I gain are irreplaceable. I started this journey back in 2017, I simply started making products for my mother who has thyroid disease and very sensitive skin. I wanted her to use something that didn’t cause her to have any allergic reactions or dry her skin out. After she noticed her skin was healing from my products, she recommended I start selling to the public and that’s how Savannah’s Sweet Spa started. In the beginning I only sold items to my family or friends, now I sell to people everywhere. I took things one step at a time; I perfected my products, then launched my website, paid for advertising & marketing, and gained certifications pertaining to my career field. It’s all about finding your niche. Whatever you’re good at, pour 100% of your energy into that and master your craft. Take whatever steps are necessary to build your brand and even when you feel like you’ve done the most, you can always do more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been living in Louisville, Ky since 2011 and let me tell you this city has transformed like crazy from then to now. If you’re looking for a good “hole in the wall” type of establishment I would recommend checking out Club Cedar. The crowd is typically older folks (which I enjoy) but the food is cooked fresh, the drinks are strong and cheap, and the music is banging! Another establishment I highly enjoy going to is 8UP Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen. During the summertime nothing is better than having some drinks, good food, and loud music all on a rooftop. Very classy but at the same time still affordable. Vallarta Mexican Seafood & Grill has some fantastic seafood & Mexican cuisine. I took my sister there for her birthday and we had the Mariscada Familiar dish. If you’re a seafood lover, it’s a must try! It was seasoned perfectly, cooked thoroughly, and can feed a group of 5 people. It was a pricey dish but well worth it. If you’re looking for something outside of eating & drinking, I’d recommend taking sail on the Belle of Louisville. The Belle of Louisville is a steamboat owned and operated by the city of Louisville, Kentucky and they have different activities you can enjoy while sailing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

One of my main supporters is my mother, Yvonne Jones. My mother has always been a hustler. From working full time jobs, going to school, raising two children, and having multiple hair salons I have seen my mother do it all! She is the one who told me to start my business when I started making products for her skin. I get my ambition and hustle like mentality from her. I’ve never seen my mother beg, bum, or hold her hand out and wait for someone to do something for her she just does it. She has a very determined and strong mind, which I respect a lot. Honestly, from time to time we butt heads because we act alike lol but nevertheless, she always makes her presence known as a mother and nothing less.
