We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra North and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m born and raised in a small town of 5000 people in Sweden. I also spent a lot of time with both of my grand parents out on the countryside where neighbors barely existed and nature such as forests and lakes or rivers were all around. I was lucky to get to run free a lot and have my imagination run wild as a child. Whilst being brought up in small and safe environment has it’s advantages it also made me feel very overprotected and sheltered from the big wide world. That might have been the reason for all of my daydreaming about a life in the spotlight somewhere else out there. My dad is also a big dreamer so I definitely inherited that from him as well as his musical skills. There was always music around when I was little so it wasn’t hard to put the two together and dream about a life on stage in America!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a country/rock artist and songwriter from Sweden. I came out to LA in 2015 to pursue my dreams of being a professional singer and artist and have stuck around ever since. Today I write my own songs and perform at festivals back home as well as venues around LA. My latest single “Shore Thing” is currently playin’ on radio stations all over the world.

What makes me stand out apart from others could be the simple fact that I’m a Swede that does country music. This is something I’m very often asked about in interviews that people find fascinating. I also have a background in dance and love to move on stage so y’all can expect this country girl to be dancing in her videos too up ahead! I’ve been singing since I was little but started my professional career as a music and event planner and booker for big artists and festivals in Sweden. Having that in my pocket as well is really an advantage when it comes to my own career today. I’m also a photographer on the side so visuals come very easy to me when it comes to my own singles, videos and artwork.

I would say my biggest challenge is myself. I’ve had to overcome severe stage fright and anxiety regarding opening up and writing songs and showing the world who I am as an artist. I’m very proud of every little step forward and all the progress I’ve made thus far. There is still ways to go and sometimes those demons resurfaces. In that moment it’s good to know it’s all just in your head. Your biggest obstacle or enemy is often yourself. When you get past that, nothing will hold you down. That is an amazing feeling to have.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to Broadway since that is the mecca of country music. Tootsie’s is a little favorite spot for me since that’s the first place I ever sang at in Nashville. Loser’s Bar & Grill on Division street is another cool one I’d make sure to visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, I love this! There are so many people I’d love to give a shoutout to who has helped me along my way during all these years. First off, my dear friend and musician Håkan Zetterkvist who is THE reason I’m on stage at all today. If it wasn’t for him I would have never gotten past my stage fright and started singing professionally. Lotta Malmström for pushing me as a singer and giving the confidence to believe in myself and take the leap to go after my career in the states. Brian “Hacksaw” Williams and Al Bonnehomme for mentoring me and showing me the ropes around LA within the industry. Last but not least, Juan Abella for being my sidekick for the past 5 years and writing all these songs with me. Definitely wouldn’t be here without you!
