Meet SaDarius Swansey | Hookah Caterer

We had the good fortune of connecting with SaDarius Swansey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SaDarius, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks in my life has played a major role in me stepping into my lane of business. The hookah industry is mostly focused around lounge/bar space, so becoming a hookah caterer or a mobile hookah lounge per say, is a risky situation for anyone that decided to enter this “newish” business industry. So, I say that to say risks are apart of life, some take them and it turns out for the betterment of their lives. Others get burned one time and play it safe from that point forward, that risk that you are scared to take might be the key door you have to open to unlock your destiny.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With my business Hookan BruthaUp, what sets my brand/business apart from others is my ability to connect with people and knowledge of what it is that I am doing. I am a mobile hookah lounge, anything that you can a get at a lounge I bring to your party/event and set up and provide the service of a building in the comfort of your own space. Since Covid, outside hasn’t felt like outside since then, so to be in your own space is a plus for me because as humans we relax in comfortable settings/ environments, you have more fun when you’re comfortable right? My brand represents me as a person, in terms of “entertainment”
“, see when you budget in your life and you put bills, essentials, and that free money you
have to spend should always be enjoyed. I add that enjoyment into your day, money well spent and your safety wasn’t sacrificed because I am somewhere that you feel comfortable. I do plan on getting a building as part of my HO, but the focus is on safety & comfort. Getting to where I am today is crazy. because I’m NOWHERE near where I know I’m going, but to acknowledge the obstacles I’ve had to overcome is merely a part of the journey and as much as I want to complain, this journey has taught me complaints are only misunderstandings between you and whatever it is you’re complaining about. Look at it like this: You order a pizza with pepperoni extra sausage; you get home and realize they didn’t give you extra sausage and you go back to complain. You get there and they tell you they’re out of sausage but gave you the last of what they did have, you can choose to not understand but the reality of it is, if you knew they ran out before you placed the order you would’ve been grateful for what you did get vs what you didn’t get. This brand/business has given me a lot of growing moments from the business side of life to the personal side of life to where my energy reflects my output in whatever it is I come across. I stand behind my brand ten toes strong because my brand is bigger than entertainment, I can “Hook ah Brutha Up” with knowledge, good energy, or laughter and much more, all of which are positive affirmations for self.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being located in the city of Memphis, is interesting by itself honestly, the city of soul, one of the original landmarks for both Black histories, but also history within itself. One street in Memphis has more history than the majority of America has together. It’s now many spots of enjoyment available, from your places like ‘The Genre’ in downtown Memphis to ‘Echelon Night Bar and Grill’ on the other side of Memphis to “Prive’ and established artists restaurant. From the history to the music to the vibes that Memphis creates, an itinerary still wouldn’t grasp the concept of what Memphis offers, and I’m a Chicago native as well so an unhidden treasure is what I’d consider Memphis to be. Memphis has an abundant amount of talented artist/great businesses that you can’t get from a brochure. One of Americas favorite tourist spots.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give some recognition to my family and my ViPs. My family does include friends I’ve come across in my life, so my family because they allow me to step out on the edge of life to discover what’s for me in my life, while giving me the support I need to inch forward knowing I can’t fall with them behind me. My ViPs are the ones that helped me realize what I’m doing has some purpose, I’m doing a service for your entertainment/pleasure. Through bookings to repost they allowed me to cross their minds with their support. Forever grateful for each one. Thank you LADIES & GENTLEMEN- you know who you are.
