Hi Rebecca, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I have embraced risk throughout my life and career in a very proactive way! Taking risks has clearly been instrumental in my journey, from starting work at a young age to venturing into unfamiliar territories like becoming a 911 Dispatcher and starting my own businesses.

I feel like I have a unique perspective on risk, and failure. Viewing failure as a learning opportunity aligns with a growth mindset, where each experience contributes to personal and professional development. My willingness to take risks, coupled with my determination to learn and adapt, has allowed me to succeed in diverse fields despite initial uncertainties.

I truly believe that the risks I’ve taken have steered me towards amazing opportunities of growth and knowledge. My comfort with taking risks also seems tied to my proactive nature and ability to take decisive action, suggesting that calculated risks are more about strategic moves than blind leaps.

My journey exemplifies how embracing risk can lead to unexpected successes and personal growth. It’s clear that my willingness to step into the unknown has been a driving force in shaping my career path and achievements. This approach not only demonstrates resilience but also a keen ability to adapt and thrive in various environments.

Overall, my story underscores the importance of courage, adaptability, and a positive outlook on learning from experiences, even if they involve risk. I know that my attitude towards risk has been a key factor in my diverse accomplishments.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I graduated from college as a Massage therapist, I already knew I would be opening my own business. There was a moment where I wasn’t sure how I could compete with the other spas in the area, and then I realized that I didn’t have to. I created Chattanooga’s only mobile massage provider. We’ve been going strong for 9 years and love that we can provide people a service that is easy to fit into their busy lives. When I started out I knew nothing about running a business. Luckily I had wonderful mentors, a community of entrepreneurs I could brainstorm with, and the audacious belief that I could accomplish whatever I set my mind to. The journey hasn’t been easy, but has been worth every moment. Creating The MASAJ has been one of the most incredible things I’ve ever done. It has shown me to think outside the box, view things from a different perspective, and to be adaptable and have a sense of humor. (Actually, that’s what my Mom always says)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not sure a week would be long enough to show them all of the wonderful things our community has to offer. Hiking and paddle boarding are always on the agenda, weather permitting. And of course the food and cocktails are a must. I’m a northerner, so I love taking people to Goodfella’s Pizzeria and then to Wiseguys Lounge downstairs. If the evening is nice, the view from Whiskey Thief is breathtaking. Of course, the Incline Railway is a must, and seeing the penguins and butterflies at the aquarium. During the summer, the markets are always fun. When we need to relax, we all gather at my house for good eats, great conversations, and probably an impromptu jam session.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today, with my positive mindset, can-do attitude, and the knowledge that I can do whatever I set my mind to, if it wasn’t for my Mom. She has been my biggest cheerleader my entire life, even when I was a rebellious teenager.

Channing Muller, whom I met through networking, has had an incredible impact on the direction my business has taken. I also have very supportive friends who continue to encourage me to keep dreaming, creating, and accomplishing audacious things.
